Okay, so I ran into a weird issue here on my Gateway 2000 machine, using either my Microsoft mouse or Logitech serial mice... which when I load cute mouse drivers, it detects and loads the driver, but it doesn't work in anything. No games, nor it's own mouse test. Neither verion 1.9 nor 2.1.

However, whether or not cute mouse is loaded, Windows 3.1 uses the mouse flawlessly. I've used cute mouse on another machine with the same mice with out any sort of trouble. Now I did try my Microsoft mouse driver, and DOS applications work with it flawlessly. However I could never get it to load into the upper memory to save on conventional memory. Any ideas what is causing cute mouse to not work?

use an earlier version and it will work, go back to 1.8 , AFAIK this is a mobo/chipset thing, not a mouse one
or just load high microsoft mouse.com if you have UMBs and be done with it 🤣

Cool, thanks! However that one doesn't seem to be able to find my mouse. Hmm. Well, I rather it say that then claims it did and not work anyway. 🤣

Surely it doesn't have anything to do with my I/O card being an 8-bit ISA card, does it? It has two com ports, a parallel port, and a game port. That's it... not sure the brand. It was whatever came with the gateway.

Sounds like version 1.6 can't find your com ports; you may have to use one or more command line options (type 'ctmouse.com /?' to find out what they are) and see if that helps. Also read ctmouse.txt for additional info.

If that still doesn't work, then give version 1.8 a try; I just found it in my collection of old drivers.

Thank You for the older driver files. 😀

Turns out, it was just some odd issue it had with the 8-bit ISA I/O controller card that came with the Gateway 2000. I also can't seem to find any information on it, other than it has these numbers. "D10-500 Rev 6", and has UMC chips. Several jumpers and several dip switches. My 386 has one of these as well.

I tried a 16-bit ISA I/O controller card with FDD and IDE (I disabled these) and put them in the gateway and Cutemouse works flawlessly now (From what I can tell.)

Could this be the 8-bit I/O controller you have?

Unfortunately I have never used I/O controllers so I'm as much in the dark as you are ReeseRiverson. Hopefully another member who knows about this particular ISA card will see this and fill in the blanks.

Yes, those both are very much the same except.... the empty IC sockets, three of them on both those ebay links, are filled with chips on my I/O card. 😳
