One thing though, I believe you usually can label the bios images in the modchip's loader. Can it be another bios that's just been incorrectly labeled perhaps?

Certainly not, as it has an animated splash screen saying "IND-BIOS". 😉

I bought a Roland PMA-5 portable MIDI synth a couple weeks back (like an SC-55 only small and portable).

Turns out the MIDI - IN port was loose. I figured I'd fix it some day when I worked up the courage, but it was working fine.

Yesterday I got a Roland MIDI-USB adapter cable.
Couldn't get it to work with either my Windows 7 or Linux machine. Figured the cable was bad.
Then, today as I was fiddling with it, trying to get it to work, I would get occasional snippets of sound as I moved or bumped the cable.
So I screwed up my courage and opened the PMA-5 up... it was remarkably clean inside...

So I got out my soldering iron, which was brand new, only used a few days ago for the first time to solder a USB connector to my Raspberry Pi. Probably not a good one, I got it fairly cheap...
While it was heating, I took a look at the circuit board.
3 of the through-hole contacts looked to have no solder in them. I could wiggle the MIDI port, and the leads would rattle, almost.
So I resoldered them carefully...

I closed it up, connected it to the Linux box... success! Connected it to my Windows 7 box... more success!

It's interesting comparing how the same midi songs and games sound on it compared to the MT-32.

OPL3 gangnam style. Okay I used an SB Pro in 86Box but whatever.

I picked the TV a couple of years ago for $NZ10. For some reason the screen developed some dark areas, not sure why as if dye was running through it. The great thing is the new LCD panel comes with a three year warranty. Well worth it.

$10 NZD? That's equivalent to $6.44 USD, give or take a few coppers.

Yeah I don't think the seller knew how useful it is. Also bought an Android 7" tablet that was advertised as an Ebook viewer quite cheap.

A lot of people would say an Android tablet is just for eBook reading. They aren't wrong on that part. I use my Nexus 7 2012 (rooted and custom AOSP 7.1.2 ROM loaded, 32GB storage over the 8GB board it had installed) for car diagnostics (BlueDriver OBD2 scanner), getting the torque specs for every part on every vehicle, watching my shows, and other things.

If you can't find a 2 digit one, I'd guess two 1 digit ones would be fine too. The pin configuration on those displays seems to be pretty standardized.

I have been looking for a replacement last night, the pinout seems standard, and so does the voltage (if I pick the same color). Now finding one (or two) for a decent price (including shipping) is a bit harder. Replacing it with two 1 digit displays seems impossible, it has 2x 9 pins. Will continue the search today.

If you're in the GTA, I know where to get these for pennies. Old school ones too.

There's a mirror of the xbins ftp server here, if you want to dump the bios and compare against other images.

Item 131867610900 on ebay. About 9 EUR total, ships worldwide from Taiwan. Had I the need for one, I'd get one right now. Seems like it fits the bill.

That particular one seems to have muxed digits so it isn't gonna work on the turbo displays that I know of.

I tried setting up a 386 from scratch today... been a while since I worked with old hardware so I need to ease into it again... at first it didn't boot at all, so I went through touching the cpu... warm... gpu... warm... then I accidentally slipped my finger over the cache... ouch!
there were only two cache chips on the board, but both of them were scorching hot, it took me quite a while to remove them because the cache sockets are right in between the simm sockets and the first isa slot, and one of the chips was jammed in so tight it was hard to get anything underneath to pry it up with.

without cache it bootet up... decided to sort out the cache situation later.
then I hit the next roadblock... I didn't really know how to set up a hard drive from scratch anymore... so I skipped that for now too and tried to boot from my new gotek to just try stuff out a bit...
but that didn't work either, I just couldn't get the gotek to work... a normal floppy seems to work fine, but all my old DOS floppys don't boot, could boot with a win95 start disk and switch to the dos floppy and it seems fine, so idk what's up about that, but since I didn't set up the CF drive yet I couldn't install anything anyways, but I couldn't figure out how to format the usb stick for the gotek, the format function on the gotek itself didn't seem to work... press both buttons and turn on? flashes a number very shortly but doesn't do anything, then I tried the tool from the gotek website but that didn't seem to do anything either... reading around a bit I realized how many different versions there are, I apparently bought a SFR1M44-FEL-DL... so yeah need to figure that out too now.

so all in all I realized I have to re-learn a lot of this stuff and I didn't really get very far 🤣
