Today was a perfect day for some retrobright with a blue sky and with 34°c degrees outside. I decided to retrobright these somewhat rare Compaq beige speakers. I gave a good cleaning with warm soapy water to remove the annoying scratches and scuffs.
The speakers were very yellowed as you can see in the second photo comparing the circles that were covered by stickers.
Sun exposure was around 3 hours and I'm pretty happy the results! Tomorrow I will take care of the second speaker.

Cont.

So the speakers grill were also showing some signs of rust on the back side, so I decided to give a paint job, removed the rust/paint, applied primary and a darker grey to give a more premium look. In the future I may rollback to the original lighter gray but for now I will stick it with it 😀

For reference the model number of the speakers is 288839-001.

I got a old matx Dell C2Q setup with a $15 200gb intel SSD, 8gb of ddr2, a halfway decent 430watt PSU and a old hd 7870 setup for a freebie for a friend. It's. . . surprisingly not bad after doing the 3.0ghz tape mod on the Q6600. What will run on it runs really well!

Main pc: Asus ROG 17. R9 5900HX, RTX 3070m, 16gb ddr4 3200, 1tb NVME.
Retro PC: Soyo P4S Dragon, 3gb ddr 266, 120gb Maxtor, Geforce Fx 5950 Ultra, SB Live! 5.1

Anyway.... Did a video and uploaded to my Youtube channel.

IT'S ALIVE..... ALIVE!!!!!

I have even modded the Kernal ROM and personalised it, with the use of a HEX editor.

That's awesome I'm glad it work without having to do any reworking. I'll be watching the video for sure tomorrow!!

Bought a new old stock board game called Make Your Own Opoly or something. Basically a blank Monopoly board and software that lets you print out stickers, title deeds, and money based on your own designs. A fun thing to do with your kids based on their favorite places.

Anyway, the software was designed for Windows 98. I tried to run it from a Windows 10 system because I wanted to use our color Laserjet. But the software wouldn’t run on a 64-bit system, not even in compatibility mode. So I fired up an Athlon XP box with Windows XP 32-bit and was able to download drivers for the Laserjet. Worked great! It was gratifying to be able to use an old system to get a job done.

Neat, I remember seeing those games advertised back in the day.

Unicorn herding operations are proceeding, but all the totes of hens teeth and barrels of rocking horse poop give them plenty of hiding spots.

Great work! I usually stop at cleaning / removal of marks / retrobrite when restoring stuff, but you really went the extra mile with these!

Installed latest beta driver for Nvidia GT6600 GT GPU based card and installed the unofficial patch.
For an ASUS motherboard with SiS chipset and 4x AGP the 8x AGP card works wonderful for windows millennium.
Now, since I have a pentium 4 @ 2ghz,2 gigs of DDR400, and 256mB of GPU VRAM i have 500gb of single partition fat32 to fill with higher end 3d games. and multimedia apps.
The first windows without DOS mode has DOSBOX just in case i wanna use video modes my HD display doesn't like.
Has patches for memory, hard drive capacity, and also put nero 7 in for that xp media centre edition experience style multimedia system.
good old daemon tools for those iso's so I don't have to put up with cdrom noise.
And to top it off I made custom Millennium sound scheme I am attaching here for anyone who wants to be Millennium than 2000 wannabe ... a kind of statement really.
May soon make a proper Millennium Edition post support era desktop theme to go with it.
I could have done this without this forum so thanks heaps 😀

I've decided we don't need a new thread every time every time when clearing out my stuff to sell I am not sure if it's an "interesting" bit of hardware or not...

I recall people on here saying that a AMD 5K86-P75 (AMD-SSA/5-75ABR) was "slightly interesting" is that correct?

Ryzen 3700X | 16GB 3600MHz RAM | AMD 6800XT | 2Tb NVME SSD | Windows 10
AMD DX2-80 | 16MB RAM | STB LIghtspeed 128 | AWE32 CT3910
I have a vacancy for a main Windows 98 PC

Got a serial mouse to work on my old Toshiba TS2130 I fixed up last week by using hardware profiles in Windows 95 - I've never used them before! I had to set one profile that disabled the PS/2 Accupoint to use the external serial port mouse and another profile that did the opposite when I didn't use a serial mouse as it looks like Windows 95 can't cope with two mice at the same time.

This shit washed up on my dock (I retrobrited some classic kit in the sun!)

jOHhjRU.jpg

And the results were B+ grade, overall. That Gateway 2000 case came out mostly white, marbing in annoying places, but I am on the hunt to use period parts to make it a DX 33 again 😁

3D printing a mount for a magnet to fix the swinging drive door of an Antec case with a missing key.

Took down an HP that was supposed to have a 3.4GHz P4 - there was a 1.8 inside.

Did get a Crucial-branded X1300 - not special except the branding.

An *extremely* square Premio case, sadly missing the side panel (where do they all go?!?!):

Should clean up nicely. Hopefully a lot of the plexiglass in stores will end up in recycling and I can get some, I have a few cases to do up and this one could get a full plexi side panel.

I have an old U-tron case with the full metal cover, which is missing (I believe I had it and someone helping me move disposed of it several years ago). I really *really* want to turn that into a 486. RGB Plexi 486, anyone? The case is basically standard generic mini-tower height, but 1" wider. Also has the drives and PSU at the bottom.

Impressive cable management.

Is that a 450?

I hope to do something roughly similar, except red and grey (in honor of ASCI Red), for the dual PPro. I think I have the case now, but it needs painting (I knew I kept that airbrush for a reason).

Item #354 on my to-do list. 😀

Acquired Dragon Warrior IV (NES) today and played through the first chapter. Played some Quake earlier.
