2 400MHz sun cpus with vrm and 4 256MB memory modules, nic and vga. I would've taken the whole machine but it was almost entirely gutted and it was the size of a small cabinet on wheels.
4 3com 3c905cx nics
1 tplink Gigabit nic, realtek chipset
1 hp nvidia quadro 285
1 nvidia fx5500
1 ati rage xl
1 SB0670 (I thought it also had a gameport but this one has a 28pin connector labelled AD_LINK. At least I got the front panel cable with this one 😀)
1 SupremeFX II
assortment of sdr,ddr2, ddr3 and ddr3 ecc reg memory modules
3x PIII-866
1 Athlon 1800
1 i7 920
1 E5520
1 i7-2600k
and
1 IBM 6x86MX PR300

I think I might have a slight hoarding twitch when it comes to computer parts 😁

I see you have a Tech-Source Raptor GFX. I'll be interested in your experiences with that. It has a proprietary BIOS and I couldn't get it to post, only to be detected correctly as a Permedia 2.

The worst thing is that the salvaged part is only a small part of everything that was thrown away that I've laid eyes on. 😐

Man, where do you live? Sounds like a paradise for retro maniacs like us ..

Permedia 2 you say. Thanks, that gives at least a little hope of getting it to work on a pc.
Getting it working in windows will be doubtfull, so linux it will be
Considering the card is for a SUN machine, I don't expect the bios to work on a pc.

It's not so much where you live, it's more the job you do. Though location will definitely have an impact on the amount.
Just look at Dave from EEVblog. He just goes looking in the private dumpster room in the building of his workplace and finds pcs, tvs, etc...

edit: also one slight annoyance with this amount of hardware is finding the time to test it properly. 😒

sigh, I'm fairly certain that several of these cards are damaged.
Still it's a good haul for this week, don't ya think? 😁
not shown are the memory modules, cpus and heatsinks.
I'm starting to have a slight storage problem 😐

That main board looks interesting. A 286 I assume? What's the CPU speed? Nice AWE64 Gold and some late era ESS based sound cards. Personally don't care to much about the PCI era and up. But a good find nonetheless. I hope most of it works. 😀

This PC in the rack-mounted industrial case. Thing weights a ton and the case seems bullet proof. Inside it's no that interesting. Probably has a shot PSU. It's ISA bus was directly connected to some sort of video acquisition equipment with another rack-mounted case which has some sophisticated-looking electronics inside. It was about to be trashed at work so I made sure it will be safe.

The 286 is 20MHz, the battery hasn't leaked on the board. It did have a few battery acid crystals on one leg of the battery. The first thing I removed from the board.
I wonder how much memory the board supports. Any idea if the UMC 82C206 is the same as the OPTi ? Would be nice to have a 286 board that supports 16MB of RAM.
the DTC5150 controller has several bent pins, the sata controller has damaged connector and damaged chip package on the back, and there's one card that has an electrolytic cap that's broken.
That's all the damage I managed to notice for now. Seems like it all should be an easy fix.
I'm a bit disappointed that the ISA scsi controller lacks a bios and a floppy controller.

There's only one ESS soundcard, an ES1868F based one, the others are both analog devices chips.

I'll find out if it all works when I finally get some time to test it all. 😫

Saw at least three Sound Blasters at right: AWE64, Live, Audigy. Those were great stuff (AWE64 in particular); hard to believe they got thrown away if still functional.

There's also a Voodoo Banshee between them. 😉

Taiwan is and always has been a province of China even since October 1945; the question is under which government that represents China. Ask your entire European neighbors why they voted Yea on UN Resolution 2758; only Greece, Luxemburg, and Spain abstained.

Hey man, I was just making fun of the PRC and their rediculous demands.
PRC is a rogue state and no government on this planet should recognize it. Especially not after the stunt they pulled of in late 2019, which haunts us until today.
But yeah, you're right. This isn't the right place for such a debate. Let's get back to topic.

PRC is no more or less rogue than any other "world power", the fact that they are what they are today is the result of decades of choices made by other exploitative nations and their cold war aspirations. Nothing is as black and white as you make it sound. That said, fuck all governments.

Plenty of people around that throw stuff away just because they no longer have a use for it.
I also found a 5"1/4 1.2MB drive a while ago. It was just laying between the other 'waste'.
Took it home, cleaned it up a bit, tested and it's working ok.

Ah, thanks, I was wondering if it was a voodoo card. CT6750 3D Blaster Banshee.
Seems like the card is still giving screen. Will have to test how stable it is.

Nice.
I wish you good luck with the benchmarks. Lets hope there won't be any artifacts.
And even if there are artifacts, it's still worth to try a repair. Any 3dfx card is worth to be rescued.

Speaking of which, I picked up two desktops at the bulk trash pickup in my neighborhood three weeks ago but didn't have time to write down their specs here at VOGONS. Stay tuned. 😉

I don't know for sure, but I think all the 82c206 chips are all clones of the C&T 82c206. Looked through some photos on Ultimate Retro some time back and there was a series of boards with very similar layouts but with some different 206 chips, including: UMC UM82C206F, SIS 85C206, Samsung KS83C206Q. Then there's also the Chips&Technologies P82c206 and the Opti F82c206. Looking at the 84 pin package pinouts then they look the same.

odd network card? just some 3com intel & realtek pci cards, one isa ENET16-COMBO/P and two ISDN cards.
Which one is odd to you ?
