It's a good thing that this place exists, because good luck trying to explain to most people why this is such an epic score.

Well, if we're being honest, a lot of us would have also felt this way 15 years ago.

"Oh, great... Four outdated looking towers and tons of boxes for obsolete junk I will either have to break down and throw away or lug around with me for the rest of my life until it's worth something."

I don't think most of us ever suspected that this stuff would get so hard to find so quickly, let alone that it would be so valuable.

Now for some blitting from the back buffer.

PC's seem "Kinda new" eg slot 1 with a GF4 Ti, and the P3's with the FX 5200. Thats how we are building our retro rigs now more then back when this hardware was new.
Feels like someone got into this hobby, insisted in buying all boxed stuff, then decided it's not for them and offloaded everything for free?!

Whatever the case, I was reading the post and thinking yeh it's pretty damn good but that line about having the boxes, eta as well. That defiantly is what makes this special/rare...and I don't even care about that stuff myself!

It could also be a collection from someone who passed and their relative was happy to have someone pickup all the old computer "trash". This seems the most likely, I think.

It's most likely and it will happen to all of us one day.

It's already happening to me. In the last two years, I've acquired parts to build 3 towers. My K6-2 parts need another beige tower, but I'm not buying one for $150+ on FleaBay.

It's a Tyan S1856S Tomahawk BX board. Can't test it, because it's missing the bios chip, but s370 and BX chipset seems a little less common 😀

Stuck at 10MHz...

not 100% sure but I think any 2Mbit parallel flash eeprom in 32-Pin PDIP should work.

Right to repair is fundamental. You own it, you're allowed to fix it.

Found an Apple TV 1st generation on the ground, in the middle of the road.
It was raining but no water was inside. Took it home, opened it and dried the little water that was inside (mere drops).

Someone opened it before me as the rubber bottom was missing.

Works but as I have no remote to use it and no Samba device to access it (no wifi from it either), I don't know if it is still fully functional.
It was reset to factory.

No, I don't have an iphone to replicate the remote. 🙁

Do you live in the US? I just acquired another beige tower I have no need for so I was planning to sell it. It doesn't have the external drive slot covers which may or may not matter if you plan to fill them up with devices. I'd give you a great deal on it if interested. I'm located in Salt Lake City UT.

I can take pictures later tonight.

*Edit* I just checked and I see you're in BC, which is still somewhat close. I don't know what shipping would be but I'll take pictures anyway and you can let me know if you'd be interested.

AT or ATX? If you plan on sending it this way, use USPS. UPS will charge import taxes.

Picked up this beast of a ~2007 era machine from the free section of Craigslist the other evening. I've been wanting to build a few nostalgia machines for various eras of my childhood, and this will be a great start for the Windows 7 build I have in mind!

Great big Silverstone TJ09 E-ATX case:
hvhhp0.jpg

The guts:
vzkqp2.jpg

I got severely confused at first by this combination 3.5-floppy and USB2.0 card reader device... I thought it was just a card reader until I heard its distinctive noise on first startup:
im8mfb.jpg

Good old EVGA 8800GTS 640MB and some sort of Sound Blaster X-Fi:
wwx291.jpg

And, of course, the classic Zalman cooler caked in dust:
cq5xr5.jpg

The motherboard is an EVGA nForce 680i SLI board, with a Core 2 Quad Q6600. Curiously, it came with no RAM and some of the connectors unplugged (CPU fan and GPU power)... but throwing a stick of DDR2 in and reconnecting those plugs got it to POST no problem.

If I could find a second EVGA GTX 280, I'd be set for my Windows 7 rig I'd like to build! It's hard to find older PC parts in BC, though... I definitely got lucky with this. This PC would have been pretty expensive back in the day, I'd imagine.

Welcome and congratulations for finding a nice rig for free. However IMHO this combination (EVGA nForce 680i SLI + Q6600 + 8800 GTS) is far more suitable for an excellent WinXP build instead of an okay, but far from great, Win7 build. Those hardware were designed in late 2006 / early 2007, more than two years earlier than Win7 (four years than Win7 SP1, the must-have final update).

You're definitely right - my current intention was to update the BIOS of that nForce board to its latest revision, and use my spare Q9650 + GTX 280, which would be a few years newer than the Q6600/8800GTS combo. I want to live out my middle-school dreams of SLI 280s! I have a Socket 478 P4/AGP 6600GT machine I've been meaning to put together for Windows XP, albeit earlier Windows XP gaming than the Craigslist PC would be capable of.

However, I've actually just been offered an nForce 790i by someone locally, so maybe this should stay paired as is and that newer board be used for 280 SLI. Lots of fun playing with socket-775 platforms ahead either way!

Some will pair with bluetooth if you've got a bud with an apple doohickey to come over. There may be android app workarounds too.

Unicorn herding operations are proceeding, but all the totes of hens teeth and barrels of rocking horse poop give them plenty of hiding spots.

Found this 286 motherboard with a nice harris 20 mhz cpu.
The battery has leaked though no major damage.
It has a quite rare CPU CS80C286R1787 that from the search it looks a custom 20 mhz harris CPU.
It has 7 ISA slots and SIPP ram sockets.
I don't have any SIPP ram though.
Speaker seems to have 2 pin instead of the regular 4 pin.
No 287 math coprocessor is present but the socket is there.

it was a "common" 20mhz cpu back in the day, I had exactly that one with a slightly more modern motherboard.
By now I'm sure you have realized to replace Sipp ram you can just solder pins to standard 30 pin simms
