Got these off freecycle last weekend

The post just said 3 working computers, hard drives removed. It was the beige dell that got my attention but the pic in the post wasn't clear enough to work out model numbers.

So what did I get?

Dell Inspiron 530s

I liked the case but it doesn't turn on so its getting parted out.
The motherboard gets power so will sell the PSU, someone might want that. DVD drive is going to my XP PC as its drive died last month. Also keeping the 2 sticks of 1GB RAM, the E4500 CPU and the card reader as they sell cheaper then shipping but may be useful

The Fujitsu is even more boring but maybe slightly more "useful"
Socket 478 Celeron 2800, 256MB ram, Asus P4GE-FSC motherboard.
It turns on and has a AGP slot so will probably just dump it in storage for now.

and best for last the Dell 4100

P3 1Ghz, 2x 128MB ram, ES1373 Sound, NEC D720101GJ USB 2.0 card with internal USB port, Ati Rage 128 Pro AGP, Realtec Nic, and a 20GB HDD?

Starting that up was a real step back in time. Looking at the WinXP logs looks like it was used till 2006 and had the typical software back then. Office XP, LimeWire, dial up ISP software, jokes in powerpoint you would email each other. Guess he thought anything over 10 years old doesn't matter anyway. After 5 minutes of poking round I was board and started stripping it down to clean.

Also got a pair of those Cambrige Creative speakers every OEM were giving away back then a 4:3 15" no name and a 16:9 or something dell screen. I'll keep the dell as I'm still using 5:4 17" on my desk, but the 15" and cheap filthy keyboards will get chucked

I once found an Amiga 500 bundle at a garage sale years ago for $50. As far as I'm concerned, forever that street's name is

and now I have magic pie bushes to worry about. Wonderful.

I don't even have any history with Amigas and I'd take an Amiga for $50.

ML350 indeed! Already switched to onboard because I followed the diagrams inside the case and it appeared redundant not to! Drive trays were gone so I slid a spare sata drive in loose just to test it out and it runs nice.

What was the add on card? I'm assuming must off been some reason for it? more RAM, battery backup or something. Although even the on board can do this.

I've just about finished my ML350 G5 build as well 😀 I went with Windows 2000, overkill I know but it is still officially supported 😀

The card appears to have a 256mb ram module attached to it though I'm really not well versed in the arcane art of servers yet.

I suspect it's cache, perhaps with a battery backup.

The onboard E200i only supports 128MB. You can see it's battery in the slot right at the bottom of the motherboard marked with 01/07 Rev 1
I'm guessing the card is a Smart Array P400 or P800 which will give faster I/O but doubt even the onboard will be a bottleneck on a home network.

If you configure iLo, the virtual DVD drive works really well for installing whatever OS you choose. Think of it as daemon tools but at the bios level

For this kind of task, I generally boot via PXE or USB anyway.

I didn't really found them, but they were donated to me by my coworker... around two hundred of 5,25" disks he used in 80s/early 90s (only a bunch from a big box presented on the photo)... supposedly some interesting software on them... some of them are original driver disk for some 286 motherboards and isa video cards (hopefully not overwritten).

Hey @x0zm_, I just now noticed you got a Thinkpad 600E at almost exactly the same time as I did.

My approach to the finish was to scrape off the old, then apply 5 or 6 heavy coats of PlastiDip. Did the trick nicely.

I shouldn't complain, while it's untested and still in the car I found a Dell Precision 420 Dual Pentium III today, looks complete, weighs like 6.5 metric tons ('swhy it's still in the car).

I can never find floppy lots that aren't insanely priced or gone when I get there. I had to buy a few boxes recently.

Edit 420 no power. Some sign of metal corrosion, probably stored in a damp place. Mobo looks clean, probably (proprietary) PSU. Meh.

Been a while since I went on a good recycle safari. Last weekend I scored these:

an ASUS TX97-E with the north & southbridge removed, for some reason, and a huge burn mark (WTF) underneath where the 2032 battery holder used to be:

...and an ECS P6BX-A+ with a missing clip from one DIMM slot, the ATX power header neatly de-soldered, and an interestingly-shaped row of front panel connectors:

I'm actually fine with this; I can sacrifice the ASUS to save the ECS which is a pretty nice board, and harvest its ISA slots for a different project. I have precious few Socket 7/AT spare parts, but Slot 1 CPUs and ATX cases are coming out my ears, so I can make the ECS into a solid little machine. I might even swap it in place of my P2L97-S (LX) if it runs well, since I have an underclocked 100FSB P3 in there anyway.

Looks like it has a PC/PCI (SB-Link) header too, so bonus win.

This was actually the first part of a bigger haul with some choice goodies. More to come later. B)

When I got my XPS T550 (same case) it was totally clogged up with dust too. Not quite as bad as yours, but pretty gross; I had to do a complete teardown and vacuum-out before I even let it into my apartment. Something about that case design just cakes it in everywhere it can & never lets it go.
