Even beige plastic that I have left in the closet, no heat, no light, is turning faintly yellow.

Maybe you're a smoker or I’m just lucky when it comes to my collection. Some of these oldies never seem to yellow. I've collected for 5 years. None of my cases have yellowed yet. They look the same as when I found them, other than maybe a few extra scratches.

Weird thing is, I've owned my second hand Super Nintendo for exactly about 10 years. It came reasonably yellowed but has not yellowed any extra since I’ve owned it. 😕 Maybe it has to do with air quality..

It has nothing to do with smoke from tobacco. The most widely explanation is that the fire retardents in abs plastic, reacts to UV light thus turning white/beige plastic yellow over time. I have a feeling that it is not just UV light that are the sole culprit. I have an idea that oxygen are to play a major role too. The reason for this, is all those reports of abs plastic, turning yellow despite being packed in a sealed box in a warehouse.

Yes. Nicotine stains. It can be removed easily with benzine (gasoline to clean with), alcohol or any other stuff like that.

Don't eat stuff off a 15 year old never cleaned cpu cooler.

This is mostly for computergeek92, but a closer shot of the HX45 tower. And its specs 😁

"NetComp" brand on front w/ a P2 MMX sticker

Intel Celeron MMX @ 400 MHz
1x 128 MB PC100 SDRAM
Elitegroup P6EXP-Me Socket 370 Mainboard
Trident 3DImage 9850 4 MB AGP Video Card
ESS Solo-1 PCI AudioDrive Sound Card
MaxTech XPV56P/L46 PCI 56k Modem
D-Link DE-220P Rev. D2 ISA Ethernet card
Western Digital 6.3 GB HDD
Creative 8x4x32x CD-RW drive
Creative 36x CD ROM drive
Mitsumi Newtronics 1.44 3½" floppy drive
Mitsuko 250 Watt PSU

I bought it from a thrift store for literally $2 because they evidently couldn't get it working. I brought it home and it beeped a "no memory" error. Pulled the sticks out and there was rust on them 😮

Also, the AOpen 230 watt PSU died quickly after I bought it and I replaced.

Nice find. And an HX45 and Acer 54e monitor to boot! I sold a lot of rigs that looked exactly like that in one of my summer college computer shop jobs.

The 54e is my testing station monitor, which I also use for my 486 DX4 and Pentium 3 gaming PCs. It's just so quiet and has an amazing picture.

Here's mine - JNC RJA52,white. I also have another version (which is a bit smaller than the one in the pic) that has a plexiglass sidepanel (w/ a Raidmax blue LED 80mm fan since the original one was quite noisy and one of the leds wasn't working).

Anyways,these are the specs:

Intel Celeron @ 2GHz (Socket 478)
2x 512MB DDR400 RAM
ASRock P4i65G - Skt478
Winfast A340T/Geforce FX5200 128MB AGP8x GPU
Avance Logic ALS4000 PCI soundcard (which honestly, sucks hard - I'll track down a ESS,or a Yamaha or a C-Media PCI soundcard. Or anything else than a ALS4000 soundcard that at least has support for everything and uses PCI.)
Realtek RTL8139C NIC (onboard NIC is okay but will not work correctly under 98SE. Haven't tried under XP.)
Maxtor 6E040L0 40GB HDD + Maxtor 6Y080L0 80GB HDD - 40GB has 98SE,80GB has XP Home Edition SP3 in Italian (I had no working copy of XP on my hands other than this CD I got free with a retro laptop I had)
ASUS DRW-1608P3S DVD-writer
Hitachi-LG GCR-8481B CD-ROM
Alpine Electronics 1.44 3.5" floppy drive
Premier DR-B300ATX 300W PSU (recapped and improved)

Originally used to house a quite good P4 machine (HD3450 512MB AGP,very heavy 300W JNC LC-B300ATX PSU,Pentium 4 2.8GHz,GA-8IPE1000 and whatnot) but I moved most of the components (except the PSU which has been scrapped and replaced with a solid 400W Modecom FEEL-400ATX PSU also made by Deer/JNC/L&C) inside a Keymouse case I got out of a dumpster.(with a toasted ECS 945PL-A motherboard w/ Pentium D)

That case would fit right in on the Enterprise D. 😀

Great system! Inside pics would be cool!

I noticed you have an ESS Solo-1 card in there. I have a Compaq mobo with an integrated version. It's the best sounding onboard MIDI i've ever heard. Really melts your heart while playing Quest for Glory IV.

I seem to remember a thread you made on here showing off your case. I'm not really sure if the styling fits my taste, but it sure is a rare and unique case. With the decal "2000" it looks like they were really excited about the new millennium while they designed this.. 🤣

Millennium fever, anyone?

Here's one of my favorite beige cases, even though it's almost completely white. It's built very well and I love the design. Currently using it for my 1.3GHz Socket 423 Pentium 4 build 😀

I still haven't found my camera, but I did promise some pics so I just reused a couple older ones and I think these are nice.

Very early ATX cases from the time when case manufacturers would often have AT and ATX variants of their cases.

Both of these are ATX though.

In the first pic you can see for a bit just how bad case ventilation was. Hardly worth putting a fan in there without removing the metal part of the case fan spot in the back of the case 🤣!

Some more old pics, there are from 2010 or so I think.

Both AT cases and both contained the same Intel s4 motherboard. One of the 2 boards seemed to have something molten or something and I believe both boards now are not in their original cases anymore.

Interesting because of the Commodore case badges they have (no they are not for sale 🤣).

Here's another one, obviously it's an AT case. Only found 1 pic of it though.

The big tower Pentium build has a broken mobo, but i plan to get a new Baby-AT mobo to get that PC back to life

Most of these cases have a slit on the bottom of the bezel. So as long as you use case feet and you always have the tower standing on a flat surface you actually do get good airflow, I would think.

True, but most of my towers actually have an open slit in the bottom of the front bezel. The problem has more to do with the crappy fan exhaust 'opening' in the back 🤣. All the hot air will have to move through the PSU, which I'd rather not do with anything past, say, Tualatin.

Some plastics are not chemically stable. Soft plastics also contain plasticizers that leak out over time, turning them brittle. Specific plastic colors can also be problematic; especially blue, brown, plastic with metal particles to give it that metallic look, and plastic with lots of swirls in it tend become really brittle over time, sometimes decomposing into powder, breaking at the slightest touch, or cracking at points under physical tension (e.g. screw holes).

Unfortunately nothing can be done about that, except for slowing the process using temperature and moisture controlled rooms.

since @dogchainx doesn't seems to be around here anymore, does anyone else have a spare "old school" case which he/she/attack helicopter is willing to sell? I know I'm probably a little off-topic with this one, but I really want to build my next gaming rig in a beige case...

Therefore it should have some clearance above the PSU, so that i can put some fans onto the top as exhausts and some space on the front for an intake fan (all for airflow/thermal reasons).

If anyone would be willing to help me out, please pm me 😀

A good solution if you are handy with paint would be to get a newer, generic style case and refinish it beige 😀 otherwise just keep your eyes open.
