Hi,

I was reading some old magazines where they talked about the 3D Blaster VLB version of the Glint chip and its 3D acceleration. Did anyone test it and see how good it was on a 486 VLB motherboard? Is it the very first 3D accelerator card considering the bus target?
Bye

Amazing! This VLB accelerated card is really something time correct than a PCI 3d card on a 486 late motherboard. 😀

Yes, but you need to add-on memory board to make it work (only DirectX support is claimed). No pictures of it exist and no collector owns one as far as I know.

Proof of its existence boils down to Usenet posts from 1996/1997.

Imagining the horrible Direct3D support with Nvidia NV1 which was released about the same time (late 95) one might imagine the 3D Blaster being just as horrible.

From the driver readme:

(a) Microsoft DirectX requires 4MB of memory on the 3D Blaster
VLB for effective execution. Therefore if you are interested
in playing DirectX games on your 3D Blaster VLB, it is strongly
recommended that you acquire the 2 MB upgrade module for this
card.

(b) DirectX games are designed to run optimally on PCs with Pentium
processors. Hence, if you own a 486 machine, the speed performance
of a DirectX game may not be as high as on an equivalent Pentium
machine.

If you have any enquiries on the 2 MB upgrade modules, please
approach your regional Creative Technical Support Centres for more
information
