So I'm thinking I would like to try a PC to PC midi connection so that I can run the Roland emulator (Munt) on my modern PC, and send the data from my Soundblaster card on the retro box. It looks like I could do a some Fleabay shopping for an old-school midi cable and a USB midi interface and perhaps try this in a few weeks.

Is this the best, easy way to accomplish this? Perhaps I could cut the time-table by creating a simple midi-out circuit (a couple resistors) and use a microcontroller to accept the data to the modern PC?

Shame there isn't some method by which I could do this with Ethernet (since both PCs already have network cards)..

Is there method to accomplish this already that I haven't thought about, or shall I push an order out for an interface and a cable?

Jeff

I had that same idea a while ago 🤣

This is how I went about it:
