After doing a fresh install of Windows 2000 + SP4, I'm trying to install the official 3Dfx Voodoo3 drivers when it gives me this error:

I've tried the two most recent official releases for Win 2K (downloaded from falconfly.de) and they both do the same thing.
Over on the Win98SE side, everything seems to work just fine!
The only thing I can think of at this point is that it doesn't like my particular card (I'm using one of those Compaq Voodoo3 3500s without the TV hardware).

Any suggestions?

The simple one would be to open Voodoo3.inf and add VID manually... In case your card does not actually need a special driver.

Simple and worked like a charm. I shouldn't try to do these things so late at night!

I had the same problem with a Voodoo 5 PCI MAC with PC bios and original 3dfx drivers, Win2000 SP4.
What a wonderful error message, tells you how to fix the problem.

You can also install the drivers manually via Windows' Device manager, pointing to the driver inf manually and choosing a similar card with different deviceid that uses the same gpu.
