Hi,
I have this A7Pro supporting up to 1,5 GB of PC133 simms. Does WinME support 1GB or more of ram or as read online it seems to not use more than 512MB?
And with the Athlon 1000 Tbird, does make sense to have 100Mhz FSB and 133Mhz of ram? Or they must be the same freq as I remember?
Thank

Yes it does : LINK (1,15GB in my case).
BUT, it requires changing few settings in config.sys and system.ini files.
Video : LINK (starts @13:50).
Instalation itself, may not like over 512MB of RAM tho.

Nope.
Everything worked fine.

I recommend changing the setting I mentioned with 512MB RAM installed, and adding the other 1GB after it's done (in my case it wasn't needed, but I didn't exacly have a "typical Win 98 SE" PC 😀)

PS. Helpful link : LINK

If you are not dual-booting then you might as well take some RAM out. Part of the trick is to reduce the amount of memory Windows ME will use, and if you are limiting it anyway you might as well remove it.
Btw, with anything over 512MB might need to limit the amount of memory used by the cache.

I did the Vcache ini add line and now running with 1GB (2x512PC133) at 100Mhz. everything seems just like before no crash or whatever. By the way probably WinME usually will not benefit from such amount of ram anyway so I'll see if let it in or not.
Actually 3dmark2000 give me 2707 marks with this config (Athlon 1000/S3 2k/A7Pro KT133), I thought it would be lower. I would have used the Rage Maxx but I need to get used to the amount of noise from the double-fans plus the Tbird cooler...

Windows 98SE will support a maximum of 1152MB of RAM.

To limit the amount of RAM to 1152MB, use the MaxPhysPage=48000 switch in system.ini in 386enh section.
More details here: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/181862

I never had to use VCache or any other tricks to run Win98SE with lots of RAM. I'm talking about my 2013 laptop with 8GB of RAM.

Using a German patch (it turned all of my BSODs into German) I found around the web (*not* RLowe's, although I did try that I didn't feel like paying for it so I uninstalled it) I had up to 2GB working.

Nanto: H61H2-AM3, 4GB, GTS250 1GB, SB0730, 512GB SSD, XP USP4
Rithwic: EP-61BXM-A, Celeron 300A@450, 768MB, GF2MX400/V2, YMF744, 128GB SD2IDE, 98SE (Kex)
Cragstone: Alaris Cougar, 486BL2-66, 16MB, GD5428 VLB, CT2800, 16GB SD2IDE, 95CNOIE

I was talking about vanilla version with no patches at all.

BTW, if you search the web hard enough, you'll find a non-German, no-trial 2GB RAM Patch for 98SE 😀

They don't have to be the same speed, faster memory will work.
But you won't be able to get the maximum performance from the memory, because the FSB will become a bottleneck.
So if you can run the Tbird at 7.5*133 instead of 10*100, your system will be faster.

I will try this. By the way PC100 at 2-2-2-6 at 100Mhz are quiet fast already. This Athlon setup I am writing is faster than I thought. Too bad I cant find a Slot Athlon setup, but I happy to have found a KT133 Socket462 too, it's vintage enough. 😀
