Hi guys,

i recently got the mentioned Board with a Pentium 90. I have the following problem(s):

1. It seems that the Dallas is dead; i get "CMOS Battery Failed"
2. When i try to enter the BIOS the systems just hangs indefinetly.

Could this be connected? I don't want to try an do this Dallas-soldering-hack'n'Slash-Battery-Fix if there could be some sever damage.
(I am able to boot via floppy btw.)

Greetings

Yes, you can not enter the BIOS with a dead Dallas chip on that board. You can't enter the BIOS with an invalid time/date set either, so this is actually more complicated. First, fix the Dallas. After that, connect a floppy and boot DOS. Set the time/date and reboot. Now you can enter the BIOS.

If you don't care about the BIOS settings, you can get around all this by permanently setting the clear CMOS jumper. This works with a dead Dallas as well, but of course the system will always start with default settings.

And thanks again.

I desoldered the dallas (After extensive training one a dead card) and soldered a socket into the place.

Yes, you should use the last BIOS, version 1.00.16.AX1. Earlier ones have so many bugs preventing you from even entering the BIOS. The last one isn't perfect either, but at least it kind of works.
