Hi Arno,

The only other way this is going to work is using the recovery flash method. You need an actual bios update disk and a floppy drive for that.

Power off, remove the only jumper on the board, put the upgrade diskette in the floppy drive. Power on. Now the nail-biting begins.
You need to wait for the beep of the system booting, the floppy starts reading. If all goes well, you will hear two short beeps. Then and only then, you can power off the system, put the jumper back and power on.

This is a good suggestion. I will try that in the near future 😀 thank you so much! very much appreciated.

Okay I found some time to try this. But it didnt go as planned.
I decided to upgrade from 10002cb0h to 10002cb0 first and update to 10006 after that. I made a bootdisk, copied the extracted files from the 10002cb0.exe
The system responded the way described, but suddenly the pc speaker produced a never ending series of low beeps. The FDD led was still on, but nothing was read anymore. I waited for like 10 minutes, but nothing happened. It's clear that te bios recovery failed. The board also didnt post anymore, the powerled is blinking and nothing happens.
Also made the rookie mistake to not save the current bios to the floppydisk before proceeding.

As you all can imagine I am looking for a CBoH bios to restore the motherboard to a working state again, using the bios recovery, but maybe someone has a better Idea I can try.

Found a working bios file 1001CB0H and the board lives again using the bios recovery. Result: I have an older bios now than I originally had. But hey, at least the board is not bricked 😀

It would be absolutely amazing, if someone would have MR BIOS for SIS 85C471 based chipsets.
MR Bios docs tell that it exists, but i have not yet found it anywhere...

Filename Port Description SIS 85C471
-------- ------- ---------------------------------------------------------
V089B410 SIS_410 4 Mem Banks, REG_6A=FF
V089B411 SIS_411 6 Mem Banks, REG_6A=FF
V089B412 SIS_412 8 Mem Banks, REG_6A=FF

V089B413 SIS_413 4 Mem Banks, REG_6A=00
V089B414 SIS_414 6 Mem Banks, REG_6A=00
V089B415 SIS_415 8 Mem Banks, REG_6A=00

NOTE: The versions above are but a few samples of the
many ingenious multiplex schemes possible with
this chipset. (Hint: try V089B410 first).

Looking for an updated BIOS for the IEI SSC-5X86H VER:C ISA single board computer. Haven't been able to find any images online, but it seems like the SSC-5X86H was in production for years after mine was made in May 97 according to the QC sticker. Maybe later specimens shipped with newer BIOS versions?

Dumped the BIOS from my board with Awdflash 7.83, command: awd783.exe backup.bin /pn/sy

The flasher will ask for a file to program despite the /pn switch, but that will time out after a few secs, and it will go on with dumping the current BIOS.

Attached a zip with the dump from my board and Awdflash 7.83 in case someone has use for it/wants to dump BIOS from their board.

BIOS POST string: 06/28/96-ALI-1487/89-2A4KDD35C-00

Edit: Removed BIOS file temporarily, will reupload once I got a verified correct backup.

board #: 82 Re: 80286 BIOS image collection
Interesting old board. Looks like it had an option for a RAM card if the top slot parts were installed (to JE1, f1, g1 and h1, cannot think of anything else that would use that)

Hate posting a reply and then have to edit it because it made no sense 😁 First computer was an IBM 3270 workstation with CGA monitor. Stuff: https://archive.org/details/@horun

Indeed, good idea with the RAM card.
I was not able to find a 286 board with a "SOLUTIONS" chipset on theretroweb.com. But the BIOS says its for "NEAT chipset". So its most likely a C&T clone. Maybe like this one

That is as exact as could possibly be. Good thing it can run the SIPPS w/0 the DIPS according to MTL doc.
Yep those 82c211, 212 and 215 are same code numbers for the CS8221 NEAT chipset. www.dosdays.co.uk has a reference to the "CS8221 SOLUTION CHIPSet"

What is the best way to dump BIOS from 80486 INTEL CLASSIC/PCI EXPANDABLE DESKTOP? Usually I dump directly from chip using universal programmer. But on this MoBo chip is soldered.

UPD. Problem solved. BIOS 1.00.05.AY0 already online.

Hello Everyone!

I have a PCChips M570 V1.3 motherboard, and I'm looking for the original AMI WINBIOS. Upgraded the BIOS to the latest 09/04/1998, but I was dumb-dumb and not making any backups. Hoped for resolve some compatibility issues, but it get even worse with the new BIOS, now I cannot use any soundcard 🙁

I hope somebody have this board and can make a back-up form the original BIOS.

Many thanks!

Can we have one for VGA (ISA/PCI) cards as well? I have some to post right away, and from time to time I'm looking for some less usual BIOSes too...

Hello, does anybody have a dump of the specific bios in the attached photo?
The motherboard is a really strange MSI-MS5124 socket 7 , but with a specific bios version (AMIBIOS AG76).
I have tried with all available bios files from the retroweb - SI3 and SI7 , rom files AG77 and AG79, with no luck.
It reads the image AMIBOOT.ROM from the floppy disk and then just an infinite sequence of 7 short beeps ... until I shut it down (I have waited for enough time, as long as 5 minutes).

Hello,
Do you have a hardware programmer? BIOS update is a risky procedure.
There are some BIOSes preserved in web.archive.org. But it's difficult to say whether they are compatible or not.

Maybe EEPROM is faulty so BootBlock can't recover BIOS flashing it from a floppy.
Or maybe there's a jumper on the mainboard that protects BIOS from flashing.
Sometimes a manufacturer (I don't mean MSI here) used one-time-programming (OTP) chips so it couldn't be recovered at all.

Agree ! Hmm, If the flash eeprom is bad you will not be able to re-flash and have it work. How did you "brick" your BIOS ? or did it just fail on it's own ?
If you have an eeprom programmer (TL866 type) you can try to flash the chip, it will also help to find if the chip is bad.
Searching back thru archive org there never was a AG76 released/posted for MSI or Premio but there is a AMI AG77d bios (diff than the AG77) with AMI flash 5.3 which should work IF your bios chip is OK.
One thing: never load Himem.sys or other things to flash an old BIOS unless you know it is ok and always use the flasher tool that was meant to use for the BIOS version. Attached AG77d

added: the Chaintech 5SEM appears to have all same chipset/chips as the MS5124, will look to see if there is an AMI bios for it to try....

I have checked, but there is no write-protect switch on the mobo (I managed to find the manual).
The bios was bricked during an eeprom update using AG79 (next time I will take into account the ID bios string too), the ami flasher was launched from a startup dos floppy without any extended memory manager.
I will try AG77d with the flasher, also from the floppy startup disk.
Thank you very much for your support!
