Hi all,

Bought a Tecra 780CDM and trying to find the recovery CD for it. Really, just trying to find the Toshiba Wallpaper v1.0 and OEMLOGO.BMP from the time... tis a Windows 95 era Pentium II laptop. Any Toshiba recovery CD from around 95-98 would probably suffice. Thanks.

I have a recovery CD from a Toshiba Portege.
It has a file called OEMLOGO.BMP that is gray with red letters.
I don't see anything called "wallpaper" but there's a TOSHLOGO.BMP which is blue with Toshiba written all over it.

I'll attach a zip with the files.
For some reason the forum won't let me upload a .bmp file but lets me upload a .zip.

I've made an image of the CD (https://www.dropbox.com/s/l44otimkeaoja0z/Tos … CDT.iso.7z?dl=0). I don't know if it will work on a 510CDT, the title on the CD is "Toshiba: Tools & Utilities CD-ROM: Tecra 520 / 530CDT".
I also have a diskette (not original) that says "Toshiba Tecra 520CDT Startup Disk", I still have to check what files are inside it. What software for WinXP do you recommend to make images of diskettes?

Winimage is very good I believe..
Never used it to create a floppy image but is free ..and appears to be what most retro geeks use..
>>>
WinImage is a disk utility that enables users to create disk images from floppy disks, extract files from image files, create empty images, write the images back to floppy disks
>>>

Thanks for the image (s) so far..
I will test this probably weekend..though might need the official startup disk I think.

The 510 and 520 apparently both use a Pentium cpu with integrated copro ..though the 510 runs at 133mhz whereas the 520 is 160mhz
Not sure yet if they use the same or similar chipsets ..but both support the same screen resolutions..

Thanks. I will try to make an image of the diskette with WinImage during the weekend. Unfortunately I have a problem, I'm organizing my home and all my PCs with floppy drives are stored in the attic.

Just as an afterthought ..
wouldn't it be great if we had an accessible archive where members could upload and share restore CDs/Disks for Laptops etc ..
I personally prefer restoring older laptops to factory whenever possible ..rather than just installing a
windows ad hoc ..
I guess I am a bit of a purist in this regard.
thanks again for the images

I agree with you, I always restore my computers to their original OS and software whenever I can. It's so satisfying.

There is the http://www.vogonsdrivers.com, I think it works like an archive of drivers, CDs, floppies, etc., but I don't have permissions to submit there 🙁 I don't know what I have to do to be able to gain permissions.

I hope you can restore your 510CDT. I'll upload the diskette as soon as I make an image. Also, don't forget to open your laptop and remove the CMOS/clock batteries to prevent leakage damage (Warning: Leaking BIOS/CMOS/Resume Batteries Damaging Laptops).

EDIT: I also have the files in the HDD, tell me if what you are looking for is not on the CD image and I'll search on the HDD.

Hi ..
I have equipped my 510 with a new cmos battery shortly after I got it ..
However the hibernate /restore battery was removed permanently.
There was much corrosion already which had completely destroyed the cmos batter connector ..so the new one had to be hard wired to the motherboard.

I finally explored the hard drives of my Tecra 520 CDT and Satellite 230 CX (I still have the laptops disassembled, but I bought a USB adapter to connect hard drives).
I searched for .bmp, .png, .jpg and .jpeg.

Looks like the original owner of the Tecra 520CDT updated Windows 95 to 98, I found the same wallpapers that are present in the recovery CD, but nothing more.

The Satellite 230CX doesn't have anything related to Toshiba. I think the previous owner formatted the hard drive, wiping all the computer original files, and installed Windows 2000.

I've also made an image of the boot diskette that came with the Tecra 520 CDT (it's not an original diskette, and an error occurred while trying to read the file IO.SYS in the diskette), I'm uploading it here and I hope it can help someone. It was the first time I've used ddrescue, I don't know if I've done something wrong, so I've also included the ddrescue map files and output.

Thanks a lot for uploading this disc! I took the opportunity to upload it to the Internet Archive as well: https://archive.org/details/toshiba-tools-uti … cra-520-530-cdt
