Hi all,
how to forget it!
Well, actually not personally mine, family computer...
Storm MISTRAL 80286 16 MHz, 1 MB RAM, HDD 40 MB, both 3.5" and 5.25" floppy drives. Fantastically noisy keyboard.
First intervention:
DOS=HIGH in the CONFIG.SYS, that gave me a little more free conventional memory, yeah!
When I realized many things were not allowed in the 16-bit CPU, like enabling UMB using EMM386, protected mode software, etc., I went nuts until I got my first own PC:
486 DX 33 MHz, 4 MB Ram, HDD 120 MB, motherboard-integrated SVGA Tseng ET4000AX 1 MB on local bus... even expanded RAM to 8 MB and HDD to 250 MB at a certain point... until I realized I needed a better SVGA after a while and the ISA bottleneck existed... and I went nuts again as I wanted a VLB system so bad (too late when I realized the ISA thing: no more decent ISA video cards were available anymore, at least in my country's market, and internet didn't exist yet).... Until I got a Pentium 60 but then I went nuts again because.... (wanna know the story? 🤣)
