what you think about the soundcard compatibility? and the excessive CPU Speed?

An external monitor should work just fine!

The sound chip is an ESS-Solo1 which should, in theory, be DOS compatible.

Apparently some people have had issues with the PCI cards under Win98:

Assistance needed for ESS Solo-1 DOS support
Re: Problem with ESS Solo-1 DOS Emulation

Graphics chip is a Neomagic 256AV which should be fine.

You know this notebook? Looking this spec, you think was ok for 1992->1997 games? DOS and some win games? Card is ESS Solo-1E

These are the spec: http://users.libero.it/andrea-c/acer_travelmate_517te.htm

Just to give you some idea, these are the games that I remember playing with my 386sx-16 (May 1992-July 1994), 3MB RAM (later 5MB), no cache, Oak 067 512KB VGA (later Trident 8900 1MB):

Wing Commander 1 and 2: Ok
Commanche Maximum Overkill: Barely. We were considering 10-15 fps as normal during those days.
Wolfenstein 3D: Ok
X-Wing: No
Doom: No-no
Sierra Adventures like Larry, Space Quest, Police Quest, etc.: First 2 or 3 versions are ok.
Lucas Adventures like Indiana Jones Last Crusade: Ok
Death Track: Ok
Grand Prix Circuit: Ok
Prince of Persia: 1 and 2 ok
F29 Retalliator: Ok

Basicly, you can assume that few titles from 1992 will be acceptably ok, demanding games from 1991 will not be or barely playable.

Geforce4 Ti 4200 64MB

No, I don't "know" this machine. I'm just judging by the specifications and what I can find on the forum regarding the ESS Solo-1.

Depends on the price. In laptops, at least, there are hardly any "ideal" machines for any given time period.

15€, but price is not really a problem, goal is to be more compact than a desktop and to play 90% of dos games natively. i know that changing card in a desktop 486 or Pentium give me 100% of compatibility but 90% is enough for me.
