Looks "2001 an basic" rather than "2000 an high end" which makes me think its a Socket A not Slot A. What do you think? I'm slightly tempted but...eh another Geforce MX and Sblive...

I'll think I'll give it a miss then. These PCs exist in a sort of halfway house between w98 and XP... Overkill for anything that *needs* w9x, far too slow to be an XP build. Any game that needs 1GHz will support XP.

Oh good, I've talked myself out of getting it!

Well, there are actually some Win9x compatible games that can make use even of a faster hardware, though these run on 2k/XP as well. The good thing of these VIA KT133A based boards is that they can accommodate a CPU up to 2GHz, registered SDRAM up to 3Gb in size, a universal 2x/4x AGP slot and usually an ISA slot.

Although I would probably also pass on this deal. 30 quid isn't much with a free local pick-up, but it's very likely to be generic hardware. You may ask the seller to make an inside photo of the system tower just for the peace of mind.

I would have gotten it. that serial mouse in the box is kinda nifty.

PC133 ram also lends credence to it being slot-A in my mind. If it was any later, it would scream cheap socket a.

It is a mistake to think you can solve any major problems just with potatoes.

I'll correct that to first ever working Socket 7 PC 😜

Sadly that board didn't work after I brushed it off with a camera lense brush. I spent all weekend trying to get it to work again but no joy, it wouldn't power on at all. I even got a new CPU for it but no joy. I kept the CPU, RAM, GPU, HDD, serial mouse, AT keyboard, even the cooler. The case was not in good shape inside and fell apart a bit too 🙁 What I'm trying to avoid saying is that I binned it 😁

That's why I still have an itch for a Socket 7 build. To be honest I forgot about that build. It'll be good to use that STB Lightspeed 128 PCI, and I have that 1.4GB IBM HDD still too. I can upgrade the 75MHz AMD CPU to 6x86-PR120+ CPU at 100MHz or the Intel 100MHz SY007 CPU I got to test that old board with.
