Hi,

I want to have setups to play Games from these eras with at least 100fps, better 200:)

Windows XP:
Intel Core i3-3220
XFX Geforce 7950GT
2x 4GB DDR3-1600 CL9
ASRock H77 Pro4-M
160GB S-ATA HDD @AHCI Mode
WINDOWS XP PROFESSIONAL SP3 X86 - REMOVED w/ all Updates

I'm using Forceware 307.83 WHQL (2013.2.26) + Fernando's Chipset + Fernando's AHCI Drivers (integrated).
Which is the best driver for this Setup? A few Games do not work very well (Future Cop LAPD), but idk what's the problem.. without nGlide and Win9x Compatibility Mode it does not even start.

Now I've thought about a Win98 or WinME setup.

As I have a E5800 + 2x Corsair XMS 256MB at home and think about a Mobo with Intel 865PE (ASRock ConRoe865PE) or 865G Chip (ASRock 775i65G R3.0).
But which GPU? Geforce FX? Geforce4? Which components could make trouble with old games? Does a Glide Wrapper work well in Win98?

I want to play Games released 1997-2005
Or is it better to stick to an older System w/ Athlon XP-M with nForce2 or something else?

Glide wrappers on win98 are not that plentiful, there are few options and none works reliably (from my experience). Your best bet would be installing a proper 3dfx video card on your win98 setup. Also, do not use WinME, Win98 is better for this type of builds.

nGlide works perfectly fine with Win9X, also WinME is perfectly fine to use. I prefer it over Win98 most of time. The only downside is no native DOS but who cares about that when DOSBox also works fine in Win9X.

What about the components? are they okay or too much? thought about lowering the Multi to 6x, if possible? idk..

Those are top of the line for Win9x, there's really not much to say about it 😉
For GPU, you can go Nvidia 7xxx series, 6xxx series or 5xxx series. If 8-bit paletted texture is required, stop at the 5xxx (FX series) for Final Fantasy 7, 8. Anything lower than the FX series will probably struggle a lot with your 2005 games. The higher series the higher the chanche of something not working with your older games, mostly due to higher driver version required for higher series.

Of these 2 and in your situation, I would have gone with the GF FX due to potential driver issues with the X800 and a 9x based OS.

Which issues are known with Catalyst 6.2?
