I was lucky enough to find a complete Super 7 system in great shape on Craigslist for only $50. Here is the original config:
K6-2 500 Mhz CPU (with a 2.2 core voltage)
Shuttle HOT-597 motherboard (VIA MVP3 chipset)
256 MB PC100 memory (2 x 128 MB)
Matrox G400 16MB AGP graphics card
Sound Blaster Live! sound card
3COM 3C905-TX 10/100 network card
80 GB IDE Hard Drive
32X CDRW Drive
1.44 MB floppy
200 Watt ATX power Supply
Standard ATX Mid Tower Case
I made several changes with parts I had laying around. Here is the new config (only changes listed):
K6-III+ 450 Mhz CPU (clocked to 550 Mhz with a 2.1 core voltage)
512 MB PC133 memory (2 x 256 MB)
Geforce2 MX 400 AGP graphics card
Sound Blaster 16 CT2800 (for better DOS compatibility)
Realtek RTL8169 Gigabit PCI network card
USB 2.0 PCI card with 4 USB ports
120 GB SATA SSD (connected with a Startech IDE to SATA adapter)
Iomega ZIP100 IDE drive
The system runs perfectly with Windows 98 SE and I have had no AGP problems so far running at AGP 2x and a 128MB AGP aperture size . I used the AGP driver from the VIA 4in1 package version 4.41. I have not been able to get the CPU to clock to 600 Mhz, but this a minor detail. My previous K6-III+ build used an PC-Chips M599LMR board and that had several challenges to work around to get it running properly. I am a lot happier with this build. I would say for $50 and parts laying around things came out pretty good:)
