We have as well turned all the images in the right orientation (no longer upside down).

Well, so much for the Australians.

It is a mistake to think you can solve any major problems just with potatoes.

Here's a new little project that will be useful in the future where you can contribute directly !

https://github.com/Deksor/ultimateretro-svg-assets/tree/dev

This is a work in progress to re-create new assets for future motherboard schemas.
The old MTL schemas are bloated and quirky. They work fine for displaying, but they're very underoptimized and very hard to modify efficiently.
This is where this will be useful. I have remade the shapes taking inspiration from MTL schemas and to respect physical dimensions of the elements they're supposed to represent. Last but not least, they're much lighter than their original counterparts, making them easier to work with, will have less tendency to make your computer lag when using inkscape (yes, it happens), etc.

So far I've reproduced some of the most used shapes (ISA slots, pin headers, DIP sockets ...), but it's a really long process.
Feel free to help me. If you've got any tips and tricks with SVGs, feel free to share them with me 😁

I must apologize I did not read all 15 pages of this thread I just skimmed some of it. I was trying to figure out how to help contribute to this database I think I have a board or 2 that you do not have pictures for.

I do see one correction now that could be made https://www.ultimateretro.net/en/motherboards/14 you have the schematic of the version 1.00 board but the picture is of the version 2.00 board. On the right side of the board half way down there is a switch block for setting the multiplier ( can been seen in the schematic ).

For some reason I can't upload this on the site, the motherboard manual for the above board ( ASUS PVI-486AP4) on ultimateretro is the awful limited version from Asus' website with lots of pages missing.
Full manual in good quality is here:

We've reached an important milestone yesterday 😀

The database has now over 10 000 motherboards stored 😁
(Th99 had about 5800 in total, so in less that two years we've added 4200)

How many unknowns are still in the database ?

Thanks ! and Thanks again for the effort you guys put in.
I still have an HT12 chipset based mainboard with a layout that doesn't seem to be in the database.

Processor database, including variants. (Several of these exist already, cpuworld etc, but might be a fun addition, list mods, max over clocks people have gotten, etc)

The future of Ultimate Retro

Hello everyone, the ultimateretro staff have got a big announcement to make today.

Since January of this year, we've been very busy building a large update behind the scenes which took place in partnership and collaboration with The Retro Web.
Those who are familiar with this site and community, may already know this project has a very similar focus to ours, and a lot of the content is overlapping.

After the sudden and disastrous departure from the win3x.org webhost, Ultimate Retro also suffered from poor Google rankings.
Said departure was caused by the difficult working condition with the host owner, who later took retributive actions to hamper UR search ranking, including an Internet Archive mirror, which was later taken down.

Fortunately for us, the developer of The Retro Web @zago27 has been very collaborative with us and signaled to us early on that he would have liked to hand over the reins of his project to someone with more time and resources.

Taking all these aspects into consideration, we have made the decision to merge the two projects into one, under the name The Retro Web.

Q: Why are you changing names again? Who is The Retro Web anyway?

A: It wasn't an easy choice, we had endless conversations about this between both project leads and developers.
Unfortunately, as familiar as you all are with the Ultimate Retro name in mind, it has been permanently dented by the events described above, some by chance, others by intentional malice in retribution.
The members of TRW, although not as many as we have on our discord (we've surpassed 400 members, my gosh 😅 ) or vogons, they are still just as passionate about documenting and preserving computing history as you are here. We know a lot of folks already made their way here, that wasn’t by pure chance.
Q: Fine, you changed domains/name etc, what consequences will this have for the project and server?

The answer is actually simple, there will be some visual upgrades at first, with some needed code improvements inherited from TRW, but everything else stays unchanged. The board limit will be lifted in the future, but we're still working on that, so for now it stays the same at LGA 775/AM2+.

Furthermore, this project will continue to be open source and community driven!

Through this merger, we intend to combine the skills and strengths of our communities and gain a stronger position through collaboration.
If you have any other questions, write them down in general .

Thank you for your contributions and understanding.

Signed
[The Retro Web Team - Ultimate Retro]

This sounds like excellent news. While it sucks to hear what happened with the previous webhost it sounds like the aftermath will be better than where you started.

If it bumps you up the list in Google's search rankings and secures the future of the Ultimate Retro / Retro Web then that's great news 😀 Good luck with the move and merger, I'll have to start contributing at some point.
