I've revived a Compaq Desktop pro 2000. Its an pentium 3 1ghz with 512mb ram. A Nvidia Riva Tnt2 m64 32mb ram in it. It runs on windows 2000.
I want to play Soldier of Fortune 2 on good quality but the graphics card is lacking in performance.

What is considered the best (agp) card for this system. Max i can put in?
Thanks for your advice 👍

Anything around a Geforce 3 should do. What resolution do you plan on playing on?

I think 🤔 800x600 or 1024x768 would do.
So i can put an geforce 3 in there? Wich memsize would do?

64 MB is the standard around that period. Alternatives are the Ati 8500 or even 9000, and a cheaper alternative is the Geforce 4MX440. If you find a reasonably priced Geforce 4 4200 or up, that would even be better. So you're spoilt for choice.

GeForce 4 Ti4200 if you want the best possible performance for the most reasonable price.

That said, I don't think the CPU will cut it for Soldier of Fortune, which was a 2000 game and struggled on old hardware at launch.

A PIII 1.0 Ghz exceeds the recommended system requirements. Coupled with a ti4200 or similar, it should provide a fluid experience, especially at the TS' resolutions.

SOF was a very CPU heavy game IIRC but there's one way to find out..

That TI 4200 will be a nice match for that system. What os are you running?

Im on win 2000. I thought about winxp but so far win 2000 runs good.

It runs. But if you set all stuff on max at 800x600 it is playable but ingame with rain, first level its a little sluggish at points. Rest it runs good in with this card.
Sof is a heavy cpu intensive game .... farcry should be better?
