I have just got my hands on a Dell Dimension P90T with an Socket 5 OverDrive processor. BIOS tells med it’s 133MHz but SiSoft Sandra and the Intel OverDrive setup disk tells me it’s a 200MHz MMX.

Anyway it doesn’t have any L2 cache installed in the 160pin COAST slot. And I’m looking to buy a 512 and 256KB module, but don’t know enough about this topic to find the right modules.

I have found 2 pictures of other Dell Dim P90 computers using these 256K modules:
Smart in332q4ao84xg15 256k asynch 102095-06 made in usa
Smart in sm364tcsp83yg15 091595-21 made in usa

I can’t find any documentation for the Dell mobo (PBA 647857-800 CA 647858-001), but it seems to be built on the Intel PBA 646240-821 (or similar) and I have found documentation for that one. The documentation says it allows for 256 or 512KB Pipeline Burst SRAM or traditional async SRAM and that it is designed to work with modules that adhere to COAST spec version 1.2.

Are cache modules of version 3.x backwards compatible with earlier version? Or should I search for a module of the exact version 1.2?
How sensitive is it to get the exact right modules for this? I have searched eBay for these two specific models but only find similar modules.
I have found this 512KB module near where I live ”SEC KMM764V72G2-15” but it’s COAST ver 3.1 and I have no idea if it would work, or even be harmful to the system?

I believe this is Intel Trion board based on Intel Advanced∕EV OEM design.

The 512kB module you mentioned (and virtually all pipelined-burst COAST 256k/512k modules) should work. Just avoid any synchronous burst modules (those with 4 square Motorola or IDT chips and to tag SRAM). I believe some async COASTs would work as well, but best to avoid those as there are way more variants of those and they might even slow your system down.

Thanks for the reply. That’s good news. 😀
I’ve just ordered the 512k module, it will be interesting to see the difference (if any).

Did you ever receive your module? I'm also looking for a 512K PB module for my 430FX and cannot seem to find any. Can you show what the module you bought looks like?
