after looking for literally the last few years i finally found one on Kijiji when i logged in last night
the guy wanted 20$ for a Phillips 107T5 17" flat screen CRT (16" viewable?)
the hilarious thing was i was going through the motions of asking when i could come and pick it up + pay for it
the guy put in almost my exact address and i was like how did u know where i live? turns out it was my neighbour across the street
who was selling it! and he wouldnt let me pay for it he insisted i take it for free! its brand new i dont think it's ever been used as the vga cable + power cable appear to be
still crimped from the factory and it looks brand new; manufactured April 2004. Probably the last time they were manufacturing 17" CRT Monitors.

its been so long since i seen a monitor such as this; feels like even longer than it actually is; at the same time its all too familiar as i spent my whole teenage years looking at
screens like this one, that were of various manufacturers (GoldStar, ViewSonic, Daewoo, PackardBell) it definately brings me back to the days when XP first showed up,
and i was proud of my SoundBlaster 64Gold, and my Matrox gpu + Viewsonic Monitor!!

Anyway i'm excited to see it in action!
trying to decide if i'm to use it with My Asus 486 or my Pentium 75

the last time i had a CRT i had been given 2 Flatscreen Sony Trinitrons and i remember i decided to get rid of them because they took up so much room compared to the flat screens i had recently got; so i dropped them off at a recycle center back around 2008 and i remember the next week i regretted it.. 12 years ago.. damn

Congrats on the monitor!

Be advised that hi-res DOS games that run in 640x480 @ 60Hz (e.g. WarCraft 2) tend to produce a fair amount of flicker on a CRT. This can cause eye strain for some people. Standard res DOS games that run at 320x200 @ 70Hz (e.g. Doom) don't flicker nearly as much. You might want to test both to see how that looks.

Use here sth like vbehz tool to improve frequency for all resolution needed.

I just downloaded vbehz and it works perfectly! WarCraft 2 looks super crisp in 640x480 @ 120Hz.

Thanks for the tip! I wasn't aware this was possible.

Man how funny/lucky is that. just across the road !

I was also reintroduced to CRT's this year, 2006 would have been last time I had one at home. (well technically it remained , I was the one that moved)
First thing I noticed is how black black is.

Sadly it's already playing up, Blue is attempting word dominance over Red/Green at times.
A friend also into reto computing collected them from an office and gave me one for free so can't complain.
Main reason I got it was for games that use funny modes that the TFT can't handle, mainly games using the Matrox Mystique API

That's a nice CRT. Philips certainly offered a great line of products, which were light weight too.

I still have a few and use the less "rare" ones daily.
The more expensive ones are stashed away and, tragically, I had to sell three 22" inch, and rarely used, P1230s.

Same scenario here. I'm losing my red channel, and I'm hoping it's simply a bad cable or dry joint, but I can't even open it! Opening a Compaq 460-P ("1024") monitor

I feel silly.

Never attempt to open a CRT monitor or TV unless you 100% know what you're doing.

It can be extremely dangerous unless the device has been properly discharged.

I still have some CRT's and Multiscans etc. But I do not use them, except for Hercules on XT and EGA on Tandy1000.
