I purchased a 486 100 Mhz processor from ebay and I am suspicious that this processor is fake. I wanted to get y'all's opinion before I claim the ebay seller is selling fake products. Attached are pictures of the processor. The things that look odd to me are: The "Intel" logo is incorrect. The "e" should be subset below the other letters. There is no registered mark (R with a circle around it) after the "L" in the intel logo. All of the characters below the "ICOMP index=435" line should be engraved into the processor, but are instead painted on. The center of the back of the processor should be gold colored but this one is grey. I could be wrong, but I can not find a picture of another legitimate processor that looks like this one.

If this is a fake processor, I wonder what it really is. If I were to plug this in a motherboard would it fry the board, or would the board recognize it? I guess it is possible that this is (was) a real processor that has been resurfaced over in china and had a new label printed on it. I have heard of that happening to OPL2 chips. Anyway, I appreciate your input.

What is the big deal, even if it's a fake cpu? For a collector it should be a bonus! I would like to have one of these cpus...

Those are some of the last produced 486s, that use the new Intel logo with the "e" at the same level as the other letters and white marking.
Edit : production of 2007.

Probably good overclockers then...

Check out DOSBox Distro:

a lightweight Linux distro (tinycore) which boots off a usb flash drive and goes straight to DOSBox.

Agreed. Wiretap already reported him even though it's not a fake after all. He should contact Ebay to let them know that he was wrong before the seller is banned for something he didn't even do.

The guy has a 100% score so even if it's fake I don't think it's intentional. He has nothing to gain but a lot to lose.

Not today but 1996...

Definitely NOT fake, I've seen posts here and on CPU-World about them, they are just a very late date with a time specific logo.

Fake. The lid at the bottom doesn't match in size and color with Intel DX4 CPUs. Also no production information printed on the lid.

I must be some kind of standard: the anonymous gangbanger of the 21st century.
