Looks like I have two of my ZIDA 4DPS boards bricked now, all 3 BIOS chips I have (one spare) seem to have gone bad which seems weird, so I would like to get some opinions on that - is it really just a BIOS problem and bad coincidence, or should I look for another cause.

V2.1 board with TVGA8900: BIOS ROM checksum error "INSERT SYSTEM DISK AND PRESS ENTER" message, low beep, very low beep

Same board after a reboot: different message (Drive A error. System halt) and high looping beeps

V2.11 board with original UV-EPROM and TVGA8900: no image, 0D POST code, one long beep, two short beeps

V2.11 board with another UV-EPROM (spare one) that was still good 4 years ago: low beep, very low beep, garbled screen

V2.11 board with no VGA: 0D POST code (one long beep, two short beeps), then 41 POST code, looping high beeps

I also tested both boards with PCI S3 Trio: no image, one long beep, two short beeps
Could it be just a problem with the BIOS / UV-EPROM chips? Could all three of them have simply erased themselves after several years? (UV window was still covered with the sticker). If so, I guess I should buy TL866...

It is worth to reseat all the socketed parts, sometimes it makes a difference. Two of the boards have an OTP EPROM and those shouldn't suffer from bitrot right now at all, nor the UV one since the orginal label is still intact.
Is the CPU jumpered right ? It might be running out of spec. There's garbage on the screen which suggests data getting corrupt along the way and that suggests too high ISA bus speed or perhaps dirty connectors which could cause issues since BIOS usually sits on the ISA bus.

All right, problem solved, all of this was caused by EDO RAM modules... i was aware that 4DPS requires FPM memory and I thought that I was actually using FPM. I tried many different modules and the result was the same. But it turned out that all of them were EDO and I stored FPM in different place 😜

So this is how Tomato Board behaves with EDO memory.

In the process I also thought that my pico PSU could cause the problem, because it lacked -5V. So i modded it with LM2662 module (+ 10uF ceramic cap and Schottky diode). Now I know that it wasn't necessary, but maybe someone will find this idea useful.

BTW: battery is also unrelated to the problem.
