I was looking at an eBay listing and was wondering. Can a card like this that receives the input from a 3dfx card like the Voodoo 1 or 2 capture to disk the correctly dithered output as it appears on the display. Maybe with a keystroke?

I'm aware that captures with print screen don't contain the dithered output.

It doesn't have to be this card specifically; it's just an example. I'm sure there are much cheaper options.

It really depends on the capture hardware and software as to exactly how it will be captured.

As long as it properly supports the input resolution, refresh rate, and bit depth, it should work just fine.

That being said, pretty sure you are not going to be getting good video capture form a card like that since it is PCI.

Probably something like this PCIe x4 card is what you want.... yes, it will work with VGA and below.

These show up used all the time for good prices but the ones I have seen normally come with a low profile bracket so you will need to use a different bracket and possibly a spacer or something to mount the bracket to the case since the DVI port is not in a standard place so the bracket will be higher than it would normally be.

Here is a nice article on the E1/E1s
