Today I've finally made some time to take a good look at the IBM netvista 6059, Pentium 3 933.

I've got it for over a year but never really took the time to open it up. After opening the case there's a longer version of the PCI slot visible.

It is not a 66MHz PCI-X as far as I know, those are longer. I couldn't find any info on this one, so could you help to identify this slot?

There also is a network card present that matches this slot: IBM CAEP304005

On the inside of the hood there is a chart with motherboard details, which only points out regular PCI slots.

Possibly PCI-X.

As far as I know those are longer, almost twice the length of a 32bit 33MHz slot or am I wrong there?

Interesting ! From the 6058/6059 maintenance manual it lists the NIC as ROULETTE ETHERNET ADAPTER IBM PN: 19K4885 and here is the picture showing longer PCI slot but no mention in the manual as to why:

It's a proprietary 32bit PCI 2.2, the extra part is the "LAN Connect Interface" (LCI). Obviously used for network cards, although any PCI card should work in that slot.

Property... ibm... Ofc I should have guessed 🤣
Thnx! 😁

So u guess this lan card is something uncommon as well?

This has one or two signals and power/ground on PCI slot and the path for PCH/ PHY network through this extended part. Non-standard but I like that idea where can choose real NIC or PHY-based and if fails can be replaced.

Cheers,

There were quite a lot of proprietary expansion slots during that era, the ASUS Media Bus is just one of the more well known examples.
I at one time came across a similar slot but it being ISA. It was just a regular ISA slot but it had been expanded to be a bit longer, accepting the proprietary longer ISA cards which used the extended bit (iirc) for the PC speaker or something 🤣.

I'm not even sure if there are no such proprietary slots in existence that ended up having been used in only a single model of PC or motherboard.
