Hi everyone!

I got this old Optics Storage brand 8000 AT drive. Seems to be Sony interface, but pluging it in a 486 with a Sony CD card or Aztec sound card it doesn't seem to work. Tried standard IDE too.

Inside it's a Philips loading system with a Sony pickup. Has an OAK chip going out that 34-40 pin interface. Tray opens and closes fine, disk spins up but that's all it does. Could it be another proprietary interface?

I'll give it a try on Linux.

It would have to be an old Linux distribution though. Debian, for instance, removed the proprietary CD-ROM drivers from version 5 (lenny), released in 2009.

This is the driver for the 'DOLPHIN' drive with a 34-pin Sony compatible interface

Right to repair is fundamental. You own it, you're allowed to fix it.
