As the title suggests, I have an issue with a VIA MVP3 based machine I have built.

First off, here are the specs:

LuckyTech P5MVP3-99x (w/ patched BIOS)
80GB Seagate Barracuda 7200.9 HDD (PATA)
TSSTCorp SH-S182D DVD-RW
3Dfx Voodoo 3 3000 16MB AGP2x
Sound Blaster Live 5.1 CT4830
NEC USB2.0 PCI card
Windows 98 SE w/ NUSB3.3 and VIA 4in1 v4.35

Now onto the problem - regardless if I reinstall Windows or reinstall drivers, I ALWAYS get an Code 10 error on the Secondary IDE channel driver. It only shows up on the Secondary channel, as it seems the Primary IDE channel will show up as working fine. As a side effect of the Code 10 issue, I also have no optical drive showing up in My Computer at all.

Any ideas what can I try? IIRC there was a NOIDE registry trick that would fix this, but on my install, NOIDE does not exist.

Use the Via 4 in 1 version 417 instead. If I use anything later than that on with my Epox MVP3G-M, I have resource issues.

No change unfortunately, now Primary controller shows the same issue as secondary, after installing 4.17.

Yes, same issue. I even tried leaving it bare - just 3dfx, RAM, HDD, DVD drive (since that's what I'm at least trying to get working on Win98) and of course, KB and mouse. This means no NIC, SB Live and USB card whatsoever.

Came back with some photos of the issue. Didn't take a photo of the Code 10 error but this is the exact message shown:

"This device is either not present, not working properly, or does not have all the drivers installed. (Code 10)

Try upgrading the device drivers for this device."

Reinstalled at least 5 IDE drivers from three driver packs - 4.17, 4.25, 4.35 and 4.50. No change with either of them.

Also, the mobo hangs if I connect the HDD on the Primary IDE channel, but not if I attach it to the Secondary IDE channel.
