Hi there,

I what is a very unusual event I just spotted a ad for an HP T5565 Thin Client at a reasonable price (for these latitudes).

I don' t even know if I will be able to make any use of it (too bad it doesn't have PCI nor DOS SB support 🙁 ) but I might still get it....

Does anyone know If I could use a regular 128 GB SSD in the SATA port it has? For what I see that would be cheaper than an IDE-CF adaptor + cable (*) + CF card.
I'm looking at U$30 for an 8GB CF card alone and that is not far from a cheap 120GB SSD! Geez....!

Unless there is some compatibility issue an SSD seems like a better deal to me?

Maybe a SATA drive (either by protocols or partition sizes) could be a no go, but I don' t think this TC is win9x friendly and I don't *intend* to go that route

Thanks in advance.
Regards.

Given their common hardware base, I guess you're thinking of something like this by using a SATA extension cable (though see the NIC issues raised in the link)

Hi! Thanks for the feedback!

I didn't know they existed in that format but yeah, that is the kind of thing I was wondering.

But also (and I failed to mention this earlier) I was wondering if the 120 GB size (or above) could be problematic for the BIOS, although I reckon that for that era drives of this capacity might not have been too rare.

(will check that other link!, tks)

Doesn't seem that SSD size is an issue (I see places offering up to 2TB storage upgrade kits for these HP thin clients, and there's no mention of issues in the latest BIOS SoftPAQs).

Here's a video of someone adding a 120GB SSD to the HP T510
