Last weekend I bought a socket 8 system. Pretty much untested but I can return it.
It's a Digital Venturis GL 6200
Really can't find a lot info. I found this Latvian (?) site:
https://www.pchistory.lv/digital-venturis-gl-model-6200.html

What is the problem now? Well..... It does pretty much nothing.
No image, no beep (not sure if speaker still works).
Post card is stuck on 3A 28 but which BIOS is it??
What did I do so far:

* reseat CPU
* reseat RAM and try with 2 sticks at a time
* unplug HD, floppy, CD-ROM
* flipped some DIP switches
* plugged in another GPU and disconnect the internal one
* fresh CR2032

Without the CPU I get no code of course.
With the RAM removed, I still get 3A 28.
Picture of the board is attached but also not finding info about it at first glance.

Thx for looking

Ow nice already thanks.
Found a layout and settings for Celebris GL and Venturis GL so I'll look into that as well but there are some differences and no info which BIOS it is.

Thought it might help to pull out the DIP switch silkscreen. I think the switch says 'open' on top, so I guess up is off.

If I'm right about that then in the photo it's set to 1=on,2=on,3=off,4=on,5=on,6=on,7=on,8=off

That would set it to 66MHz bus, 3x CPU, Clearing password, Recovery mode, Clearing CMOS and 8 should be on.

If I'm wrong about which way the switch goes, then it would be set to:
60MHz bus, ?? CPU multiplier, keep password, non-recovery, keep CMOS and 8 is ok.

The switches are different now than when I got it 😀
Didn't work anyway.
On the top it says 'open' so I'm guessing that mean disabled?

The links to the actual .pdfs on archive.org were broken, but searching for the file name of the service manual found this:
http://sup.xenya.si/sup/info/digital/MDS/jun9 … PC/B00WWSMA.PDF

page 136/137 give the jumper settings, and clarifies that open=off, closed=on. Oddly, the service manual says that switch 8 must be off, when the silkscreen says it must be on. Factory defaults are 1=on, 2=on, 3=off, 4=on, 5=off, 6=off, 7=off, 8=off, with J27 on 1-2 (66MHz bus, 3x 200MHz CPU, boot block protected).

If it were me, I would reseat the board a few times, followed by everything else.

exercise the cpu a few times.

maybe a bit of deoxit on connectors.

It is a mistake to think you can solve any major problems just with potatoes.

I set the dip switches according to the manual but the manual says the same as the silkscreen so that is on.
Post card is still stuck on 3A 28 and the RDY LED on the card. Doesn't lite up.
One thing I can try, is dig up my other PPro but kinda don't want to.

Too bad the BIOS is not known.

This probably isn't why it's not working, but the manual I looked at says (page 137 of 220):

SW1-8, off(1) Always leave this switch in the OFF position.

when the silkscreen says:

SW1.8 must be on

[just extracted a copy of the 1.03 BIOS update, and looking at the BIOS.ROM file, it has the string '4.05 Phoenix Technologies LTD' ]

I'll take a look at it tomorrow.
I measured the voltages on a molex and both were slightly under 5 and 12v.
I can try another PSU too tomorrow.

We don't have this board listed yet:
http://www.win3x.org/uh19/

Can you make a picture of the front & back of the entire board please?

Once you get it to boot, a bios backup would be nice too.

I don't know ppro, but 3A might be cache auto-sizing, so maybe a problem with Vccs from that plug in VRM? Look to be a bunch of big electrolytic capacitors there.

OTOH, you said returning it is an option and you could spend forever chasing possible causes.

Yeah, kinda slowing down my retro activity. It's getting nicer outside and I told myself not to keep losing time on some systems so I'll return it.
A shame though but that's the way it is now for me.

I actually have a Digital Venturis GL 6200 (single PPro 200) - it's in storage in the attic at the moment, but it was a known working system when I put it there.

If there's something I can look at for you I'm glad to help.

Can't seem to see anything wrong TBH. Voltage led's on my post card are lit up except the 3V one. Post code goes to the one mentioned before and there it stops. I am out of ideas.
The coincell battery was starting to leak but nothing on the board and I cleaned the holder with IPA to be sure.

If you wanted to spend a few more minutes then maybe try (if you haven't already) pulling out the VRM and checking/cleaning the contacts and the slot and see if that makes any difference at all.

It's possible that the Vccs supply is independent of the board 3.3V, so wouldn't affect the LED on the post card. Photos of the front and back of the VRM might (or might not) help tell if that's the case. Also, if one of the caps is out of spec then it might make the cache supply noisy, and cause the cache to fail during the auto size (I've no idea how the BIOS does the auto size). But checking those things takes more time getting out a multimeter, and possibly removing capacitors to test them, which might get in the way of returning it.

[also, looking at Megatron's photos, if you haven't already, try switching SW1.8 off. It doesn't agree with the silkscreen, but does follow the manual]

[just added an image showing where the Vccs and Vccp pins are, in case you wanted to trace them to find out which VRM pins are driving them.
Used the Socket 8 image from https://flylib.com/books/en/4.57.1.22/1/ ]
