is it possible?
any leads or suggestions?
suspecting that choice will be very narrow..

The only thing I can think of is an Asrock 939 Dual Sata 2 or Dual VSTA, with the incredibly rare AM2CPU bridge card that fit into the “future cpu” slot (looks like a weirdly positioned AGP 8x slot).

You'd have to look around for industrial systems and motherboards most likely.

I need generic one, not industrial.
I'm planning to use isa opl3 audio chips.

Thanks for suggestions, but I can't see isa slot on these boards.

Your research has lead you to 3 socket 462/socket A boards. If ISA slots are more important to you than AM2/AM3 CPUs then by all means use an Athlon XP.

There aren't any AM2/AM3 motherboards with ISA slots.

Even if there were, it would have to be some specialized industrial board with a PCI to ISA bridge chip that supplied DMA support for full Isa support.

If you only want OPL3, then you can use pretty much any board that has an ISA slot, even the newer industrial boards that take newer-ish Intel CPUs.

Another option would be to use a USB2ISA adapter but you won't have any DOS support or Windows 9x support for that matter unless you write your own drivers.

Those are AMD socket A motherboards not AM2/3.
The Abit board is fantastic I own two myself they are super reliable and fast.

If you want a modern AMD or Intel CPU based motherboard your going to have to go with an industrial motherboard. They aren't all propriety you can find them in normal ATX form factors. But if you think you can find a modern motherboard with ISA slots your going to come up empty handed. I hope I'm not coming off as being mean or pushy I'm just trying to help you out. I'm quite curious as to what you have in mind for your project cause if you can find what your looking for it sounds like a fun one to follow.
