Hello everyone!
I'm still suffering with an Amstrad PC3286 that I've recently bought😅😅
This model in particular has a 286 at 16MHz, but in the Setup the maximum speed I can choose is 12MHz😅
Any help would be appreciated!

The CPU does not have a multiplier. It runs at whatever frequency the board runs it at.
If you can not set a higher speed on the board your best bet is overclocking by changing out whatever generates the clock (most often an oscillator can).

Two of the oscillators onboard are of 64 and 48 MHz 🤷🏼‍♂️🤷🏼‍♂️
The memory access speed is set at 100ns.

Thank you for your reply!

This particular model was only sold as a 286/16, no other cpu options were available. So oscillators should be the right ones for 16MHz.
The strange thing is that OP cannot set the speed to 16MHz in BIOS, but I'm not familiar with its BIOS screens. Perhaps some photos could help.

So it's not not a PC3286 as you wrote in your initial post which does have a 16MHz CPU, but a PC2286 as the BIOS says with a 12MHz CPU 😁

It's a PC3286, but it seems I'm not using the proper SETUP 😅

Come on help us a bit more here, we keep trying to guess! So you run the setup from a disk? If so then yes, you need the correct disk to show you the options for your model. You hadn't noticed until now or you thought it would work?

I run it from the only SETUP I found on internet : http://www.freetimeweb.nl/home/computer/alt/l … awson/atpcs.htm
Unfortunately I don't own the original disk... :'(

It doesn't, for no reason.

OK there's something weird going on here, the 3xxx series can access the BIOS even by pressing DEL at the startup, you don't need a setup disk for it and that's the reason you cannot find any mention of one anywhere. Have you checked the PC inside to make sure it looks like a 3286? I don't have any other ideas.

What speed are utilities like checkit, norton sysinfo, landmark speed test, ... reporting the cpu to be running at at the moment?

Right to repair is fundamental. You own it, you're allowed to fix it.

I definitely should try some of those utilities. Maybe it's running at 16MHz despite that the BIOS sets it at 12.

Considering the setup program you are using was for a different computer that only went to 12 MHz...

With 3DBench it appears 9.7 FPS. That's a good sign! 😄
