So, as many if you might know, the GA-586HX doesn't have jumpers for voltage.
It detects voltage automatically.

The manual lists P55C (Pentium MMX) 150MHz, 166MHz and 200MHz. But no 233MHz.
It also lists P54CTB (Pentium Overdrive MMX?) but states that those require Rev 1.54, which I don't have.
Does such an old board really support MMX CPUs?

As is frequently the case, the answer is possibly 😀 - 233MMX in GA-586HX rev. 1.53

Strangely that thread didn't came up when I googled for "586HX"+"MMX". Once I removed the quotation marks, it did show up.
