Check the full code on the chip, it is likely rated with a high case temperature and lower wattage.
Should go 400mhz without touching the voltage 450 or even 500 if you crank it up to 2.4/2.5 volts but would need to test it, some mobile k6-2 (not 2+) go straight to 500mhz without touching voltage, others despite the very low voltage (1.6/1.8v) only go to 400 and voltage doesn’t much matter.

Odd never realized that the k6-2 366 was only released and sold late after the 400 had been out 6+ months (366AFR is somewhat rare compared to the laptop version)

I will need to dig, I’m not sure if I unloaded all the low voltage laptop chips but if found could provide an example of what is printed on the top.

If memory serves most were ANZ which is 85C rated

Desktop chips were never rated at 80C+
So maybe not much visual difference?

PITA if there ever was one.

I had an MVP3 I bought to sell off some extra parts with and likewise I couldn’t get the Intel Ethernet card to work, once I finally did the system would crash all the time and I gave up.

I don't know, I have 1 MVP3 and 1 MVP4 motherboard, and aside from the MVP3 one not having enough juice for AGP cards beyond 1998 or thereabouts they are perfectly stable.

Mine was perfectly stable until I installed an Ethernet card, I tried multiple different brands and either it wouldn’t install drivers or was unstable.

Odd part was the cards worked great in other systems.

Don’t remember the brand anymore but might have been a bad brand

Did you ever try the VIA PCI Latency patch?

Did you ever try the VIA PCI Latency patch?

18 years later I would guess probably not?

I do remember that in the late '98 to 2001 timeframe that 550Mhz parts of either K6-2 or K6-3 were really hard to get hold of, most of the time stores only seemed to have 450Mhz in stock. I mean you can call me a liar by bringing up archive.org pages to prove web stores listed them for sale, or google books saved magazine ads, but if you were to actually attempt an order, most of the time you would be unlucky.

It's a Win9X "driver". Pretty sure it's just a small VXD that checks what chipset you are using, and writes values into memory to overwrite BIOS settings to fix a PCI bug in many VIA chipsets.

You know, circling back to those K6-2+ 570 chips, it's really got me thinking. Allegedly ~20,000 lots of 3 are listed on ebay, which is ~60,000 CPUs total. Do you think there are even that many Super Socket 7 boards extant which could use them?

hard to say, most of them have been trashed by now. But there will be many ins private collections for a long time
