For my Am386DX40 machine, I found that my NE2000 compatible ethernet card did work into the only left slot (8bit) but with its specific drivers only. Never tested the speed. For safety I isolated the left connector pins with eletric tape to avoid eletric contacts while powered.

Alright, I'll look up the manual for a card that might be called an ELEC5 E333OB with a SMC UltraChip but before I do has anyone had this card working in an 8 bit bus20220104_235646.jpg

Incredible coincidence - I have two such cards (RJ45 only), but without the setup file for the configuration. Do you (or anyone) happen to have it?

If the card has an SMC Ultra chip, did you try The original SMC setup utility that supports the Ultra, mirrored by mpoli.f?

I am vaguely remembering SMC cards having an SMC to SMC only mode where they could use higher speed or longer cables... so avoid any settings that suggest enhanced or turbo if you're connecting to "normal" ethernet.

Unicorn herding operations are proceeding, but all the totes of hens teeth and barrels of rocking horse poop give them plenty of hiding spots.

I'll give it a go 😁 Thanks!
