Hello there.

My Rig specs:

Operating System: Microsoft Windows 98SE
Processor: Intel Pentium® 4 @ 1.80 GHz - Socket 478
Graphics Card: NVIDIA GeForce FX 5700 - 256 MB AGP (ASUS model V9570/TD 256 MB)
Motherboard Model: P4V800-X
Ram: 512 MB (2 x 256 MB - DDR - 400 Mhz)
Chipset: VIA PT800
Drivers: nVidia 53.04 driver - Via 4.56

I'm getting around 7600 points on 3DMark 2001 SE;

Is that almost the maximum score the rig above could offer, or there might be some tweaking ideas/tips of yours here?

Ready to read here, any clue! I'd be much glad.

P.S.: I'm planning to upgrade the CPU to a Pentium IV 2.40 Ghz - 1MB Cache - would that give any benefit on overall bench score performance?

Thank you!

Some of my experiences with the card:

You are definitely bottlenecked by the CPU and your choice of driver for the 5700 might not be ideal for gaming.

Hi RandomStranger, I've been reading your posts while building this rig of mine, especially when you said "None of the drivers were without issues, I decided to stay with 56.64 which seems to be the most compatible and over all the fastest by a very small margin.", I tried start with using 56.64 driver but it failed.

Please see (the reason why I'm stuck on that version; 53.04);

Supported AGP voltage and AGP Texture Acceleration? (FX 5700)

Edit:
It seems you got with 2.1GHz, and with ASUS V9570/TD/128M (Geforce FX5700); had 9963 3D Mark score?

and here my CPU has 1.8Ghz, with ASUS V9570/TD (256M one) I got 7600 points..

If the issue is CPU bottleneck, would 0.3 Ghz really matters that much?

Intel and AMD built different architecture. AMD back then had a lot higher IPC. Especially later when they released the Athlon64. My 2.1GHz Athlon XP is more equal to a 2.6GHz Pentium4.

You are definitely bottlenecked by the CPU.

Results for my FX5600 which is slower than your FX5700:

3D Mark 2001 (1024x768 32bit), 45.23 driver

  • PIII 900 - 5512
  • Ahlon64 3400+ - 8548

Your score should be about 30% higher than mine.
