OMG, those copper heatsinks are nice!

What revision P2B-DS are you running? It seems from Asus' homepage that at least rev. 1.06 is required for CuMine support, however mine, which is a 1.05 came with 2 667's, which I assume have been running (got it from a coworker, who'd been using it as a home server).

Please use the "quote" option if asking questions to what I write - it will really up the chances of me noticing 😀

I've never run across a PIII 1100mhz with a 100mhz FSB. That'd certainly be the ultimate PIII BX board processor though (assuming my P3B would recognize it as it doesn't even boot with my Cu Celeron @ 1100mhz).

Your 1100 Celeron may be(?) defect. Have you tried it on other boards ?

Did you take a look at the FAQ from ASUS?

https://www.asus.com/supportonly/p3b-f/helpdesk_cpu/

Did you have the right Rev.? (i think it is not so importent as the right BIOS)
Did you have the right BIOS? (1008.004)

Very nice machine! What kind of slotket are you using?

I am slowly collecting parts with the intention to build a relatively "fast" 98SE machine based around an Asus P2B-F and GF3 Ti 500 (which I already have). I was hoping to find a higher clocked 100MHz FSB Slot 1 Coppermine for it, but the unavailability / high price of those CPUs may not make that feasible. Therefore, I'm possibly considering a S370 Coppermine with a slotket as an alternative.

PIII 900E is not hard to find, but 1000E or 1100E is nearly impossible to find. I would highly recommend getting a 900E. It is sufficient for games up to 2002 (e.g Fifa 2003, Nhl 2003, Return to Castle Wolfenstein, Need for Speed: Porsche Unleashed).

Pentium III 900E, ECS P6BXT-A+, 384MB RAM, NVIDIA GeForce FX 5600 128MB, Voodoo 2 12MB, 80GB HDD, Yamaha SM718 ISA, 19" AOC 9GlrA
Athlon 64 3400+, MSI K8T Neo V, 1GB RAM, NVIDIA GeForce 7600GT 512MB, 250GB HDD, Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS

Correct. And it can be overclocked @112 FSB to 1Ghz without much hassle making it even faster than a 'real' 1Ghz system (yes, yes, that could also be overclocked.. 😀 )

Check out the links, MadYoshi posted above. It seems that in older revisions, the voltage regulator gives no voltage with Coppermine VID settings. Could easily be the problem

I've already covered all of this in this thread! All Coppermines (P3 and Celeron) work on my P3B with my Asus slocket *except* the 1100mhz Celeron. And yes, the celeron 1100 works fine as I tried it in my CUSL2 and it posted without issue.

And I am running the beta bios (as I do on all my vintage Asus boards).

Thanks for the tip; it does look like the S370 PIII 900E is available somewhat reasonably.

I suppose I'll just have to keep my eyes peeled for a slotket at an obtainable price.

Ok, in that way, your situation looks interesting. If all other Coppermines (P3 and Celerons) work, than the 1100 MHz have to work also. Because, he has the same CPUID as the P3 Coppermine. It is 68A. Especially if he works on your CUSL2. I want to try to ask, could it be a (Tualatin) 1100 MHz Celeron. But if he would, he wouldn't work on your CUSL2. It is kind of tricky. I'm sorry that i can't help you.

I missed the CUSL2 reference.
I do not see a good reason why the 1100 would not run on a P2/P3 board. Maybe something simple like poor contact on the slotket ?

I originally thought there was something wrong with the processor until it worked fine on the CUSL2. I tried it in two different Asus slockets as well.

It is definitely not a Tualatin.

My only thought was that the P3B didn't have the 11x multiplier? Or if I need to set the jumpers/switches in some alternate configuration. I dunno. If I could get it working I'd likely use it (unless I can find a 1 or 1.1 ghz 100mhz fsb Pentium III at a reasonable price).

Due to following this thread, I couldn't help myself when I found a Coppermine P!!! 1100 on a Danish buy/sell page, maybe US$45 was a bit over the top, but on the bright side I now have 2 of them ... And an Asus P2B-DS: D

I nabbed a pair of these 1100 Coppermines recently too not at the low price of 45USD however but there really isn't a lot of options for these little rippers, also have a Rev1.06 ASUS P2B-DS that's going to get the mod to allow the extra dividers ASUS forgot to add to the board.

Also grabbed two ASUS S370-D Rev 1.02 cards to throw them onto, couldn't find the DL version at any kind of reasonable price but the D version is the same just not low profile.

Going to enjoy throwing this rig together during my upcoming holidays !

-Turns out there is a set of mods to allow 1.4s Tualatins to work on the P2B-DS along with a full 1gb of ram ...hmm perhaps even more modding is on the cards for this board 😁
