Not a big deal if it's a useless exercise but I was wondering if there was any low profile PCI Sound Cards with XP Drivers? I only have 1 PCI slot free in the MicroATX board I'm getting (super cheap Biostar G31D-M7) and I spotted a pretty nostalgic case I'd like to use that only takes low profile cards.

Mostly just playing the usual Commercial Windows XP games but I also want to play the plethora of fangames made during the era in programs such as Multimedia Fusion (MIDI Music for daaaaays).

Yep, you've got some options. Creative X-Fi has two low profile variants, the Xtreme Audio and Xtreme Gamer. Only the Gamer is a "real" X-Fi with E-MU chip (doing its EAX etc in hardware) while the Audio relies on software support. If this matters to you at all. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sound_Blaster_X-Fi

There are Asus Xonar models that fit the bill too. https://www.overclockersclub.com/reviews/asus … xonar_d1/10.htm

Edit - There is also the Creative SB0570 and SB1070. Getting pretty deep into budget territory with these though.

I've never used a Xonar but the D1 looks to be a nicer card in terms of component quality than any of the Creative options I've mentioned.

Not sure the Xtreme Gamers I'm seeing up for sale atm have low profile brackets, look more like full size (despite the card itself being low profile).
Or are my eyes messing with me?

Someone is selling a bracket that looks like it'd fit but oof that's another £20+ for a piece of metal

EDIT: Looks like the Xonar DG is gonna be my best bet

For XP and 7, even 9x compatibility in LP look at some Cmedia chips. Quality varies immensely per card, and ya might have to do some digging to find a good card and or driver. Other than what other people have mentioned that's all I can think of.

Main pc: Asus ROG 17. R9 5900HX, RTX 3070m, 16gb ddr4 3200, 1tb NVME.
Retro PC: Soyo P4S Dragon, 3gb ddr 266, 120gb Maxtor, Geforce Fx 5950 Ultra, SB Live! 5.1

Damn you're right, looks like that card never came with a half height bracket.

It was an "accessory" that you had to buy from Creative. I believe it was that way with all their low-profile ready cards sold in retail.
