Hello there, I'm building a Windows 95 (Not 9x, Not 98) gaming PC, couldn't decide with what VGA card I should proceed..

I currently have:

Albatron GeForce FX 5200 EP 128MB - Picture: https://www.guru3d.com/miraserver/images/revi … 00/DSC03068.JPG
Sapphire Radeon 9200SE 128MB - Picture: https://i0.shbdn.com/photos/09/15/46/x16_1035091546nc9.jpg
Asus Radeon A9250GE/TD/256M - Picture: https://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/OrgAAOSwDRxhr7Ax/s-l1600.jpg
Micro-Star MS-8878 GeForce 4 MX440SE 64MB - Picture: http://old.vgamuseum.info/images/stories/palc … complete_hq.jpg
And GeForce FX 5500, 5700..

I assume Windows 95 supports up to DirectX 8.0a? That'd be a starting point for me as well..

Any idea would be much appreciated. Many thanks!

UPDATE: Got a nVidia Riva TNT2 M64 Vanta 16 MB AGP as well. Picture: http://hw-museum.cz/vga/159/nvidia-riva-tnt2-m64-vanta

Realistically - GeForce 4 MX, as a card with older driver support. Although your card is more or less on par with GeForce 2 MX400, by performance metrics.

I must be some kind of standard: the anonymous gangbanger of the 21st century.

running win95 on AGP board might be exercise in frustration, but if you really want to My top-build, a parts-surplus proof-of-concept Windows 95 setup guide for the 2020's

Most compatible? Voodoo 2 paired with something like a Matrox G400. Or, if DOS gaming is a high priority, a quality brand (Hercules, STB, Elsa...) S3 Trio64V+ for pure 2D with the same Voodoo 2 for 3D. That said, I would not advise anyone to pay the current eBay prices of Voodoo cards. They are simply insane.

A more realistic choice would be a GeForce 2 GTS using period correct drivers. If that's too expensive, a GeForce 2 MX400 is the next best thing. Since we're talking about a Win95 system, I don't expect you'll be playing games released after the year 2000, so those recommendations are made with that in mind.

PC#1: Pentium MMX 166 / Soyo SY-5BT / S3 Trio64V+ / Voodoo1 / YMF719 / AWE64 Gold / SC-155
PC#2: AthlonXP 2100+ / ECS K7VTA3 / Voodoo3 / Audigy2 / Vortex2
PC#3: Athlon64 3400+ / Asus K8V-MX / 5900XT / Audigy2
PC#4: i5-3570K / MSI Z77A-G43 / GTX 970 / X-Fi

I've got Pentium MMX 200 build that serves as a DOS / Windows 95 machine.

I use a Hercules Terminator 3D (S3 Trio64V+) and a Diamond Monster 3D (Voodoo) for graphics.

Main priority was max compatibility and based on using it for various games thus far, it seems to fulfill that goal.

Pentium 4 Multi-OS Build
486 DX4-100 with 6 sound cards
486 DX-33 with 5 sound cards

Hi again.
What driver would you recommend for an MX 440 AGP card on Windows 95?
Something specifically for Windows 95, fully compatible?
