Ok well I couldn't stop thinking about it and I caved, just bought this bundle for $120 USD, which to me is a fair price. Yeah it's cringe worthy that it was placed bare on a rug to take the pictures, but I'll just have to test thoroughly and make sure it all still works.

ASUS Rampage II Extreme
i7 980X
12 GB (6x2GB) Corsair Dominator CL8 RAM

I likely will put a full Creative card in it and not use the half length PCI-E card.

Now I am going to have to put together an LGA1366 setup with an X5960 and show what it can do on a desktop board.

Already have all the parts as well.

What speed is that RAM?

On a side note, it is generally easier to overclock this platform as far as the IMC goes when only using 3 RAM slots.

Pair that setup with a Noctua NH-D14 or D15 and some higher airflow fans and you will have a very nice 1366 setup.

I kinda caved and grabbed a EVGA 280 CLC for my build, it was on clearance for 50% off NIB so worth grabbing.

Should be able to really push the OC with that cooler.

Nice!

Heh, my current system - AMD Ryzen 5950X has a 420 setup with 6x 300cfm fans... Bwahahahaha!

RAM is 1600 MHz 8-8-8-24, and being Corsair Dominator should be able to overclock well beyond that, maybe even bump the timing up to 9. Regardless I'll push it as far as it can go reliably while keeping the voltage close to stock to keep the hardware alive long term, no need to go extreme with overclock considering I also have a Sandy Bridge system 2 years newer and a Core i7 4790K system, not to mention my current Ryzen desktop, all of which can easily handle anything the 1366 can't.

My current desktop is a Ryzen 5950X with an Optimus water block, and a Gigabyte RTX 3080 Waterforce, all cooled by two 360mm radiators and a Swiftech MCP655 pump. The case is massive and has 8 120mm fans and 2 140mm fans. Stays cool as a cucumber no matter what I throw at it.

I bought a Fractal Define 7XL .. huge case is an understatement, can fit a 420 with room to spare, needed it to fit the Liquid Freezer II 420 as its a chonky boi with the rad being extra thicc.

My radiator is super thicc as well. The radiator is actually mounted on the outside of the case.

It is an all copper and brass Thermaltake radiator. The case is a full tower Lian-Li PC-V2120B. Stock it was only meant to house a 360mm. I made a template for the 420 Thermaltake and spent quite a bit of time getting everything just right before modding the case.

It is painted black from the factory..

Well let me reiterate the title of the thread:

Tell me I don't need a LGA1366 platform PC

OK... you dont need a LGA1366 platorm.... there told you again.

Too late! 😁

I have the Corsair 5000D. It's a really well thought out design, room inside the case for two 360mm rads plus fans and an additional 120mm in back if you wanted. Tons of room inside, and mounting slots on the panel behind the motherboard tray for four 2.5" SSDs, plus two 3.5" HDD slots on the bottom next to the PSU.

I'm knida confused why I keep hearing the X5675 has a locked multiplier.

Jyaw8B7h.jpg

I'm running it at x25 when its suppose to be x23, and only cooling it with a Cooler master hyper 212... the original one I bought back in 2010 or 2011.

It doesnt, no idea why people think it does.

According to https://www.cpu-world.com/Compare/703/Intel_C … Xeon_X5675.html

It lists it doesnt have an unlocked multiplier but my system seems to show me different.

I should get it better cooling and try to drop the core voltage to use the least voltage possible for a stable setting but the system is rarely run, maybe some day.

Multiplier is locked, but many boards provide additional manual control over TurboBoost multipliers on Nehalem family of CPUs, which is +2x to stock speed. By Intel spec, +1 is applied if CPU does not exceed TDP limit and +2 is applied when only one core is active (HT thread is included).

X5675 doesnt have a locked core Multi according to the few sites ive checked, it does have a locked memory multi of 10x but its also got the best IMC of the series so it should be able to push memory better than other models.
