Marks Blog: http://www.sysinternals.com/Blog/

He sounds excited......but we all know how MS aquisitions turn out.

"In a move that will be good for Redmond but may have consequences for the rest of us, Microsoft has acquired Winternals and Sysinternals. This gives them well-known developers Mark Russinovich and Bryce Cogswell as well as dozens of well-loved and much-praised utilities, both commercial and freeware. Though Mark says on his blog that the Sysinternals site will remain 'for the time being,' this would be a good time to download the latest version of essential Windows tools like Process Explorer before they can go mysteriously missing or be locked up behind the wall of Windows Genuine Advantage."

🙁

I'm now leeching sysinternals site (both html and programs). I'm pretty sure Microsoft will close the site and put the tools in their resource kits.

I've been a user of Sysinternals since it was callled NTInternals (when incidently, Microsoft sent 'em a request to get a name change!)... Filemon used to blue screen our machines running NT4 when it got too busy and things weren't as professional as they've been over the past few years (since Winternals was formed to sell their apps).

Microsoft's acquisition could be the end of the free tools but it's not uncommon for Microsoft employees to have their own resources on the web. Whether they'll be as much time to devote towards anything we'll see!
