Folks,

Have you checked out Google today <grin>? Surf to http://www.google.com , just like you're going to Google search for something. Notice the Pac Man logo at the top? Google calls those logo artworks that you see there "Doodles".

Starting today (through this weekend), the Pac Man Google Doodle is a fully playable Pac Man game; complete with true-to-life arcade sounds and gameplay 😀

Normally on the Google search page you'll see the "Google Search" and "I'm Feeling Lucky" buttons. The "I'm Feeling Lucky" button has been replaced with a "Insert Coin" button 🤣! Click on it, allow the game to load, and use your arrow keys to play the game.

Heh, if you click on "Insert Coin" twice, it starts a multiplayer Ms. Pac Man version of the game.

Anyhow, I know that some of you are/were prolly Pac Man nutz, figured y'all would get a kick outta this 😀

Kewl. I've never realized the Google logo is fully playable until I read this post.

Is it possible to save it as flash file or something? You know, before Google changes its logo again.

Never thought this thread would be that long, but now, for something different.....

From what I read on the Internet (Google for "Pac Man Google Doodle"), this was a first for them (a playable 'doodle'). Hoefully this will bring about other classics as well 😀

Hehe, already tried <grin>. The game appears to be coded in Javascript, with PNG format images for the title screen and sprites, and a Shockwave file for the music and sound effects.

I *was* actually able to get it to runn offline (after saving the reasources to my hard drive, editing the URLs out of the HTML and Javascript), but unfortunately wasn't able to get a beep out of the game as far as sound and music.

I also decompiled the SWF using the decompiling utility FLASM, but didn't see any hard coded URLs in the SWF's source.

Maybe someone more savy than I can figure out how to get the sound working offline 😀

The first time I saw PacMan was about 25 years ago when I used to go to the tarvern that was near our house to have tea and talk to Mary, the girl who always served me the tea, and several times after I was leaving and stopped to talk with her, she was at the coin-op wooden stand-up video game console, playing pac man.

Good thing I archived it. As of today, Google Pacman is now gone.

P.S. One little glitch of my edits though, the game doesn't automatially start like it did when surfing to Google's page on the Internet. No biggie though... simply press "Insert Coin".

Hehe, I too remember the large wooden stand-up comsoles. I suppose that simply shows our age <grin>.

To tell the truth, Pac-Man was never really my thing, and still really isn't. But, I wouldn't go as far to say that it sucks... simply for the fact that it was the infancy of video games. The likes of which, we wouldn't have the great PC games that we have had throughout the years, if it wasn't for it 😉 😀

@All,

Hehe... "Insert Coin"... rememinded me of something <grin>:

Back when my niece was about 12 years old I had built her up a 386/DOS622/W311 PC. At the time, my nephew (her brother) was about 5 years old.

Several months after I had given the PC to my niece, my sister calls me up and said that there was something wrong with the floppy drive... you couldn't insert a floppy into the drive. I simply figured that it broken, as I had used old stockpiled parts to build the PC in the first place.

Went over to their house, and after having a looksie... I found a quarter stuck in the floppy drive's slot <LOL>! Now, my sister and I knew that her daughter (my niece) had enough common sense NOT to stick anything other than a floppy into the flopppy drive, so our suspicions were directed towards her 5 year old son.

After drilling him about it, he maintained his stance "I DIDNT DO IT!!!", but we KNEW that he was the one that must have stuck the quarter into the floppy drive. After my sister and I discussed it for a while, trying to figure out why he would have done such a thing, we came to the following conclusion:

My nephew was old enough to know that there were all sorts of fun video games that you could play on the computer, so he must have thought that he had to insert a quarter to play them <LOL>!

Totally non-related, but I'm on a roll here <grin>.

Years back when my sister and her family moved to a new locale, at the time my niece was about 14 years old. Many years after their move, I moved up here as well (back in 2005).

Last year my sister and brother-in-law and I were cleaning out their storage unit where they had originally stored things from the house move from several years back that they didn't have room for in their new house.

I found a medium sized box that my niece had packed from their move several years before, with black permanent marker writing on the taped-up box that said "PC Monitor and Bowling Ball" <LMAO>!!! 😀

Me, too! Thanks for the link - I was beating myself up for not taking screenshots of these outer space related (incl. UFO) google logo pictures.

Now I found all that I wanted from months in the past and did screenshot captures of them so's I can archive these screenies!

Thanks again for the link!
