Wow. I'm impressed. Thanks for your work guys
Also: I just fixed important issues in the Dos version of 1oom and it needs to be tested because I have some improvements for the SDL2 version, but I don't have much time for everything.

Thanks for dropping by. Is that fix included in your 1oom release v1.7.5, or does it need current SVN? I can play a game on real DOS if it helps the project.
(PS. I am missing the build ship at all planets shortcut. IIRC in some of your previous builds it was ctrl, alt or shift click on the select ship window.)

For example, it's possible to compile a DOS version of Falcon's Eye, even though the DOS binary is not provided.

I actually uploaded the code to Github last weekend and added a compiled DOS binary in the releases. Also, I added sound support under DOS in the game.

Thanks a lot! I remember watching your video of the DOS build a while back, but never got around to try compiling the DOS version myself.

DOSBOX is the best way to test it because of Android support
You can build/replace on all planets in the new "Ships" UI. Try the "Ships" button and hold Ctrl or Alt
Thanks for your support

Looks like the source code of Hypercycles was released to the public some time ago:
https://github.com/jevarg/hypercycles

The game is still shareware though.

Added Dungeons of Noudar 3D and Tetris Queen to the list, removed Tyrian as the original source code was never made available publicly (the code of OpenTyrian was translated from Pascal to C).

I think Raptor: Call of the Shadows can join the ranks.

Indeed: To quote the FreeDOS news article.

"DOS has always been a great platform for games - DOS saw a lot of great games, including the 2D flight attack game Raptor: Call of the Shadows by Apogee Software. The source code to Raptor: Call of the Shadows is now available under the GNU GPL. Developer "skynettx" worked with original Raptor developer Scott Host, and other developers, to release the source code as Free software under the GNU General Public License. You can find it at DOS Raptor on GitHub. This is distributed without assets, which will need to be rebuilt."

Whoopsie, I missed the news and only learned of this today, added to the list!

I also added Vitetris and moved Space Plumber to the main list of free open source DOS games, as the original source was intended to be compiled either for Linux or DOS, and the DOS binaries are built from it as far as I understand.

xyWords: Text-Mode Edition - a new DOS game for XT/256KB RAM/MDA/360KB FDD (with source)

I recently made a text-mode version of my earlier released xyWords game
It is complete with (admittedly poorly commented) source code and released under public domain

Just browsed through a first few games on the list and found that some links don't have any DOS downloads anymore.

ASC binary for DOS is unfortunately not available anymore on their homepage. But the copy has been saved in Internet Archive: https://web.archive.org/web/20021010075347if_ … :80/asc_dos.rar

Abuse for DOS is also gone from the links.
I found these download links on Internet Archive:
http://web.archive.org/web/20010615060349if_/ … 80/abuse200.zip
http://web.archive.org/web/20010615060637if_/ … 80/abusesrc.zip

If I find something else "missing in action", I'll let you know.

Due to a PM from WolverineDK concerned with disappearing source code from DOS games I'm posting this.

The more immediate concern may be to get the source uploaded to wayback/archive.org either via directly from original site or from sites like dosgamesarchive, devs or hoarders.

I looked through the first post and gathered the list of games that link to sourceforge, github or bitbucket so the source is easily accessible and theoretically on a site that is not going away any time soon. (I know some of the games had a (GITHUB) name after it). It may be worth tagging the games on https://www.dosgamesarchive.com with games that have source on such sites and those that don't so that those that don't have source on those sites can be parsed to figure out if they could or should be uploaded. Would definetly need people to work it unless scripting can easily do the job. Licensing may or may not be an issue depending on where you upload it to or if uploader cares or not.

What would really be nice is a service like github geared for what is left behind by those who should know better. Latest Visual Studio no longer compatible? Here's a workaround or use a runner with the last known working version (unofficial) or the last documented version (official). (Assuming legally availble to use) Pacman in MSYS2 only providing posix compiled binaries? Here are the non-posix compiled binaries. Latest dependency breaking OS compatibility? Here's the latest version with the fix or here's the last working version or hell any version you want to use, etc etc.

I recently put xyMDA (updated) text mode version of xyWords on Github

https://github.com/techdistractions/xymda
It has the source in Quickbasic 4.5 and I've left the license as Public Domain

It was the first time using Github, or uploading my source anywhere public.
Wish I did it earlier.. 😀
