I actually bought this a while back, along with a GTX 480 for $20. They were both sold as defective, and I thought I could make use of their coolers worst case. I was unable to repair either of them, so I sent them in to a professional GPU repair shop. This GTX 780 got its GPU reballed for $30 and is working like a champ now. The GTX 480 also had the same treatment, but the GPU was still not being detected by the card according to the repair technician. I'm not surprised, these Fermi cards ran super damn HOT, must've completely died somehow. Anyway, I ended up with a working GTX 780 for $50 and I'm super happy about it.

WOW! "GPU repair shop" ! 😲😁👌 Oh, I wish..... we had such exotic things in my part of the world.
Seriously!

And, I wonder what kinda shop that is, that does such things, and so cheaply !? I mean, only $30USD to fix/reball 1 GPU ?
Do they perhaps repair other (retro/PC) things as well ? And do they take international orders ?
(seems like a very narrow niche, repairing only GPU's, heh)

It's not really all that cheap in local currency to be honest, it's just that our local currency has had three consecutive years of meltdown so pretty much everything sounds cheap to foreigners 😅

The 400 series Fermi card were ..delicate fire breathing demons, ran hot but if you looked at them the wrong way they get all flustered by the heat and fall over, 500 series were a little better due to more substantial cooling but they too had similar issues .. got a GTX580 that is temperamental due to getting too hot one gaming session. Was an awesome GPU for the time too, it does still work on the occasions I need to use it for testing but I dont trust it for much else.

The 780 is an awesome little GPU too glad you got it working again, its one of the GPUs that nVidia no longer updates drivers for but it shouldn't have any issues running games from its era, IIRC only the 750ti gets new drivers now due to it being Maxwell based. (Which reminds me that I need to buy a 4gb 750ti for my test rig)

If the location of that site is correct its about 440 worth of your local currency, not sure what the average wage is there but it doesnt sound cheap to me at all.

Well, looks like it(440) is about 10% of the (new) minimum (monthly) wage:
https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2021- … m-wage-thursday

And with alledgedly more than 40% of all workers in Turkey earning the minimum wage, my earlier joyful statement of it being 'cheap' seems a bit premature indeed.

It's indeed not cheap compared to local purchasing power, but honestly not much is these days. Considering a shitty 1050 Ti costs around 3,000 TL and a semi-decent card like the RX 6600 costs 7,000 TL, I'm pretty OK with paying 450 TL and getting a working GTX 780 😁 It has drivers from late 2021 which should be fine for running anything worth throwing at it, and has Windows 11 drivers so I'll stick to it as a backup plan.

Technically this aint "Computer Hardware" but it is modern hardware and it is being used too ...uhh creatively fix Computer Hardware and it was a needed purchase.

Congrats, Dremels are great tools to have in the shop. 😁

Speaking of technically non-computer hardware but useful for repairs, I made a couple additions to my workbench this week.

This is my first oscilloscope, so I'm curious to see how it performs in diagnosing and repairing old hardware.

I have one of those, its absolutely a great starter scope. I feel totally obligated to post this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xaELqAo4kkQ

It is a mistake to think you can solve any major problems just with potatoes.

Made two upgrades to my win10 system:

1. Lian Li Lancool 215 case - Previous case was the Corsair, airflow improved notably. Wish the front fans were bigger 😁.

2. Audioengine A2+ speakers - I wear hearing aids which cause problems with headphones. These sound amazing even to me!

Nice! I've got the same scope and it is a well made and capable piece of equipment I think.

Ok, didn't buy it exactly today but this is my latest computer related modern hardware acquisition. 😀
Although I have a real A1200, A500 and a Pi 400 with Pimiga, I still like this thing very very much.

Just took delivery of another tool for the bench. I wanted a scope that would be able to work on larger boards, but at the same time wouldn't completely break the bank. This Amscope seemed to fit the bill. I'm really liking the flexibility of the boom arm; it's nice to just swing it out of the way when not in use.

Still waiting on the LED Ring light to arrive. But even with ambient light from my overheads, it's still quite usable at lower magnifications (which is where I'll probably be most of the time).

I also was wondering how I was going to secure it to the table, but it turns out the base for this unit weighs a metric ton. It's not moving anywhere.

Thank you! Out of curiosity, did you 'hack' it to add the 100 MHz capabilities? I'm debating doing that based on what I've read online.

Yes, I added the 100MHz functionality. 😀 First thing I did after unpacking it.

$401, unfortunately. Lots of people bidding on gaming laptops these days. It takes both nVME and standard SATA drives.

It's going to replace my 10 year old pile of plastic laptop that's going to get converted to Chrome OS Flex.
