Are there any further updates/fixes/security patches for Windows 2000 Pro SP4 after SP4 was released? I'd like to keep it updated as much as possible and I don't think the Automated Updates works anymore. Thanks in advance. 😎

Windows 2000 Service Pack 4 Update Rollup 1
Refer this link: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/260910
And https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/891861

Microsoft was planning on releasing Service Pack 5, but backtracked and just decided to release Update Rollup 1 for SP4. My understanding is that it involves less testing and QA than a full Service Pack release.

There were some minor patches/updates released subsequently, but I don't think that these patches/updates will have any significant impact to your usage of Windows 2000 (also considering that Windows 2000 hasn't been supported since 2010).

I'm pretty sure http://www.mdgx.com has links to at least one unofficial rollup bundle, but it seems to be down at the moment.

Are there any downsides to running Windows 2000 Server instead of Professional? Gaming/multimedia issues? Remote Desktop is useful to have and isn't available in Professional.

Is this too much voodoo?

Windows 2000 Server I think tends to have more services running by default so could impact the performance of games/multimedia. Windows 2000 Server also has a 256MB RAM system requirement more than likely due to more services running.

I've no need for Remore Desktop but from what I remember is that instead of running Windows 2000 Server people would just use UltraVNC on Windows 2000 Pro. The newest version seems to still be compatible.

I never noticed any differences with 2000 Server vs Pro for gaming. Both were equal.

However, I am unsure if all of the below unofficial updates\patches support 2000 Server and without those you'll have difficulty running games requiring XP+. (There shouldn't be any reason for them not to work tho, I just haven't used 2000 server in a long time)

They do work (updated a new Windows 2000 Pro SP4 machine a week ago), but you need the right patches and certificates:
Windows Update Agent 7.4.7600.226
rootsupd_a153023b66d29034420aa227ccc2164cff75229e.exe
Then hit Win+R, type wuauclt.exe /detectnow and wait for the yellow shield to appear in the tray. If it doesn't work, look in %WINDIR%\WindowsUpdate.txt what's wrong.

After you install them use PortUp to archive them for feature use. You can also use PortUp to enable Microsoft Update without the need for IE6. Bear also in mind that you will get slightly different updates depending on the version of core Windows components you have (Internet Explorer, Windows Media Player, .net Framework etc.).
