I was listening to Bill Evans and Jim Hall's Undercurrent this morning. I'm not super big into jazz but this is such a nice album that I bought it on vinyl too. The first track on side B is my favorite: Romain

For a second there I thought you said the 80s were "shit" and not "the shit". I almost lost it.

Dude ! The whole the eighties were the shit , so to speak when it comes music of MANY genres. But don't forget Pet Shop Boys either when it comes to synthpop (or New Order for that matter) 😀 I remember some months ago, a friend of mine and I, basically highjacked (with coins) a jukebox at a place I have been to a few times in Copenhagen. And we went all eighties with LOTS of eighties music, with a few surprises of other decades. That was fun as hell 😀 What about Kraftwerk ? I love me some good Kraftwerk too 😀 I just checked out Klaus Nomi, and I was like "Okay..." not my cup of tea. But it did remind me a bit of Supertramp.

brostenen: You have just met a synth "maniac" of proportions 😉 , but I love music. Of all genres, hence the reason, why I said I like everything in genres ranging from classical music to heavy metal. So if you met me at a jazz playing place. You should not be surprised.

I remember Pet Shop Boys. Especially their first album. It was kind of big at that time. I heard it first time at a school summer camp week. (Hyttetur). Yes, pop was great in the 80's. I think it all died with the Grunge era. Of that I like Alice in chains and Soundgarden the most today. Back then it was all Nirvana. Yeah. Nomi was strange, and I don't really like it. But god, that man had a voice. And he had was nothing like anyone else. I think he was one that was a part of early new romantics. Like Visage and David bowie might have taken ideas from the dude. Like Nomi is one of the actors in front of the tractor in David Bowies Ashes to ashes video. 😀

Thanks... Going to liste to it while I clean the house. 😀

EDIT:
It is good. Perfect as background music, when one is cleaning and doing house work. It is kind of funny. I think that I heard it, back in the late 1970's when I was in daycare at the age of 2. I fully remembered how the invironment of the daycare was, when I listened to this record. My mother was told back then, that when the daycare keeper, played some classic or jazz, then I was like glued to the stereo and kind of in a different mental world.

Some of it was shit, yet it was the decade with the most good pop if you ask me. I have a select taste. 😀

For some reason this thing below has been on a loop lately.... Found it randomly for 1 euro at our local SalvationArmy outlet - and it looked soo out of place, I just had to take it home.

Granted, I'd heard of him before, being almost the only LPs available in the book stores I visited in some Eastern European country at the cusp of the 90's... Still a fun and very unexpected find.

YES!

Just in case: if you can recommend any good records in a similar vein to "Undercurrent" I'd be very interested.

This would be very difficult because Bill Evans has such a unique style... I would suggest checking out Bud Powell (Bill Evans himself claimed that Powell was the greatest influence on his style), maybe some work by Red Garland (e.g. Red Alone or Feelin' Red). Also check out Fred Hersch Trio - Sunday Night at the Vanguard.
