Used to run it on Windows 7 x64 ultimate + d3dwindower,
I just used the DirectX7 emulation, and it worked.
But no matter what I tried, it starts crashing on windows 10

But on the other hand, using directx8 to run the game (with d3dwindower)
has no problems except it has no windowed mode.
It just runs under windows 10, without windowed mode,
In windowed mode, it would then just crash.....

Any ideas how to fix this. Don't want to use a VM
enjoy playing games natively on bare hardware...

Try installing DirectX 9 first. W10 on'y ships with DX10/11/12 and none of the libraries for prior DX's (which is odd) IIRC

Win7/8/8.1 don't ship with all DX9 files as well. Silly M$ and their redistributables. Why not just integrate every Visual C++/DX file to the base ISO, what's the point of stripping them? We have 10+ versions of Visual C++ in add/remove programs by the end of it, it's silly and shite.

Personally I don't like Win 10 all that much and I wouldn't touch it with a 39 1/2 foot pole for anything older than DX10/11 knowing how easy it is to brick with all the old DRM protection DX9 era games used. Retro XP and 7 is going to be a real thing in the next few years as people want to keep playing their older games without having to repurchase or use third party patches and cracks.
