I'm planning to revisit some tycoons i loved from the DOS era, but i would love to discover some new ones as well. Mad TV and Detroit were amazing.

That is not a DOS game. My favorite tycoon has to be Transport Tycoon Deluxe. Although its default difficulty level seems to aim towards beginners, it is still a pretty balanced and very entertaining game. Most of all I like that it is appealing to hardcore nerds who like to optimize network layouts and timetables but also to casual players who just like to sit back and enjoy watching the vehicles driving around.
On the other hand I can't really give a recommendation for Transport Tycoon (without "Deluxe") as its basic rail build/management possibilities prevent sophisticated network layouts from being established.

I second Transport Tycoon Deluxe.
It has been released for Windows though and the faster your system, the better it is.
