Use turpentine ?

- Just kidding.😁

(Some of use use plastic boxes or shelves to keep things tidy.
Card board boxes or cabinets are also useful for organizing thngs.)

Get some affordable IKEA shelf (Kallax or the like), and some boxes that fit in the shelves (can be had at IKEA as well) and --- as I tell my kids --- tidy up your room! 😀 Also, get some wipes and clean off all the dust. Start vacuuming regularly....

Yes cardboard boxes. Those standard-size postal boxes are ideal. You can get them in (effectively) full-length card, regular-size card, large motherboard, small motherboard, and slot-1 CPU sizes. You can now stack and file your cards like books. My collection was also a mess until I boxed everything up.

ETA: and for cables you can use those large heavy-duty gardening bags, plus smaller canvas or string bags for small loose items.

Is this too much voodoo?

Other mans treasure is another mans trash. Keep what you absolutely need, ditch the rest. I've thrown boxes and boxes full of NOS gear away just because it was too much of a trouble to sell (and not enough profit).

Muz, I struggle with keeping all sorts of boxes, for things that I paid big money for.
Sometimes it's useful to keep boxes (if you want to re-sell, or fear that it will break down so you need warranty in the future) but most of the time, if the item works... just throw the box away. My current rule is : if it's worked for 60 days, throw the box away.

The more sound cards, the better.

Do you keep the manual of the box?

Mostly, yes. I have a binder with manuals inside.

It's not just disorganization, what are those garbage and dirt doing on top of your desk? Organizing the mess aside, a little bit of cleanliness is also required I guess...

I've seen worse (believe it or not) at somewhere I worked. The company in question is no longer around, I wonder why.

At home I do try to keep on top of things and keep some semblance of order, sometimes I fail but more often that not I succeed. All it takes is a little will power and self discipline to keep it up.
